USICT- probably not as good as you think

- the college campus is good. the location is good. hostellers face the issue that no shops and hospitals are present, and day scholars face the issue that they have to walk 1.5 km to reach metro station (bus is available but service time is rigid) the college architecture is good also
- availability of free time. students can work on their skills and pursue leisure activities as well.
Dislikes
- placements. the main essence of a college are its placements. and they are okayish, the newer batches are very talented, they might bring it forward.
- the hostel food is very bad, there is a huge issue of mosquitos in the hostel, there are lacs of mosquitos on every floor, and nothing can be done about it. the dogs also pose an issue, they often enter the premises and enter mess etc. rats are common even on top floors. washing machines are rarely working(you can find one if you look hard enough)
Remarks :
USICT is in the main campus, so its said to be the best college of ipu, when i was filling form for ipu counselling, some senior from other affiliated college suggested i put usict on top, also the cutoffs were the highest for it, and the fee structure, the location, everything seemed best. i read some answers on quora. Since i was from the 2012 COVID batch, i got admission through JEE, but now that everything is back to normal, an admission test is conducted in April end-may. the college campus is good, there is no load about attendance, you get good food in campus, exams are easy and can be cleared by studying just one night prior. the placements are okay okay, only a handful of teachers are supportive, there are no funds for anything, any event or any hackathon. the club culture is as good as dead. no techfest is organized, the prizes for competitions are not distributed. the cutoff for CSE in my time was 25000. there is choice to leave college after btech and not compulsory mtech.
Course Curriculum Overview :
the faculty is good, knowledgeable, but not supportive. the mostly prefer handwritten assignments, offline classes, not too strict about attendance. some teachers are even exceptional in their respective courses. the midsems are generally a tad bit tougher than the endsems, they are of 20 marks, 5 marks for internal assessment and 75 for external(in which you can never get good marks due to strict checking), the exams are always easy and from past year. although, from the upcoming sessions, 2 times minors are starting. fees has been recently increased, but it wont be increased while youre onboard. it only increases for the upcoming batches. there are several scholarships for ews, but there is one scholarship worth 70000 that is received by one exceptionally distinguished child once a year, called Prakhar Due Scholarship.
Internships Opportunities :
there are no good internships that college provides. only those students who get placed on campus get ppo, otherwise we have to find internships off campus. also, teachers arent really supportive of students who get good internships, there have been instances, where college refused to give no objection certificate to student who got internship at microsoft and he had to leave it. but, instead of this, students get the opportunity to intern under a teacher, and they get full certificate of this. its called utkrisht. the teacher is working on some low level project and student gets to work on it
Placement Experience :
you get to choose from 2 placement offers, one till a 8 lpa slab, and other higher. the placements for 2024 batch were very poor. before that they used to be good-average. internships are even worse. girls may get MNCs, but boys generally have to do freelance, unpaid or startup internships. the boy-girl ratio is very bad i have 2 girls in my class. the list of recruiters can be found on the website. around 60% students get placed. my plans are to do mba, in case i dont get placement from oncampus. but since the workload on college is low, students can skill up on their own. there is a culture of development, but not so much of competitive programming, and this reflects in the placements.
Campus Life :
the annual cultural fest is anugoonj, and its mindblowing, in league with fests of nsut and dtu. apart from this each department conducts their own tech fest-this practice has been reduced due to unavailability of funds. the clubs are fighting to survive, and often the prize money remains stuck for months. there are 5-6 clubs in usict, and several cultural others. GDSC, IEEE, ACM, SDC(software development cell), Techspace are the tech clubs. library is good, and books are available, book bank is held every semester. the hostel is good. everyone gets personal rooms, although its hard to get a room for non outside delhi/ncr people. i am a hosteller. i find the food to be very bad. the cleanliness in toilets is average. everyone gets a 2x2 balcony that is infested with pigeons. we have to pay for own wifi, although new wifi has been installed, its almost everytime down, or gets low speed. there is no mess off. mess timings for girls are very strict 9 pm, and for boys moderate 11 pm.

The placement cell is active. Companies like Agile Capital Services, Chegg, and Wipro visit. Eligibility requires 60%+ marks. Highest CTC offered is around 8 LPA and Average package is 4.5 LPA. Around 40-50% students get placed, while science graduates prefer higher studies (M.Sc / B.Ed). My plan is pursuing higher education and managing my student e-portfolio platform.

The placement is good for students of commerce background and even many arts students get placement. But for science students, there are rarely any science background companies hiring as even as an intern. Many science students go for higher studies. So, Rarely science students get placement and if placed then not in company of science background.

I chose my course because I was interested in learning a business environment and management processes. Faculties are very well experienced and professional , and teaching methods are good. Term exams are held every 6 months and difficulty level is not very high .
Doing masters in political science from Daulat Ram college
Placement Experience :
Drc has a decent placement for bachelors students and cell is very active, invites companies like Amazon, Deloitte, ipac , accenture, etc and offers around 6-20 lac. But drc doesn't provide placements for master's students, though there are many external opportunities to grab in . Masters student do apply for internships in political and policy roles and even get placed in political consultancies and awarded with fellowships.
