For admission to Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, I went through a common entrance test for all the graduates. A merit list is prepared based on your performance. And after that counseling is held. And the choice of subject is given according to your marks. they are very serious about practical knowledge and learning which is required in agriculture. Labs are efficient and new. And upgraded. The teachers are very experienced and all are PhD. Holder scientist. Classes are regular. Monthly seminars also take place. Various guest from the best universities and institutions come and share their experience. They don't have campus placement. The administrative staff is not that supportive. Few of them are very arrogant. The canteen is expensive not student pocket friendly. Classrooms don't have air conditioning in the summer it's very difficult to study there. They don't have educational trips for post graduate students.
The course curriculum is good. But few departments have educational trips in their syllabus and few don't. This is a major drawback as we all need to learn and experience equally. Faculties are sometimes biased toward some students. The scholarship is given only based on reservation. Not on your family income. The fee structure is nice.
There is no internship program. We can go to other colleges to complete our thesis. Undergraduates have an RAWE program. That is Rural Agriculture Work Experience. This is done by attaching the students to a village and making them do all the practical work related to agriculture in the field.
There are no placement and job opportunities there. They promote and talk about start-up programs various start is funded by our university but there is nothing for those students who seek jobs. We don't get the opportunity to learn what's going on out in the world we don't get to visit other institutions colleges or companies.
Campus life is good it depends on how good your friends are. There are various students from other state also. Which gives us a diverse experience. I haven't opted for a hostel but I have friends there who live in the hostel so I have seen hostel rooms with our not that spacious because in one room 3 people live. The food there is cheap but not so nice. The library is one of the biggest libraries in India. Online and offline. Various research papers and journals can be accessed. There are regular sports activities held. Annual sports meets of intercollege are also seen. Which are pretty well conducted.
I choose Mechanical Engineering as my course here, as i am interested in Automotive, and also this institute is near my home town. There are permanent faculty members present in institute. All lectures are done in proper classrooms and study materials are also provides digitally. They are very easy to approach and helpful in nature, they help us solving doubts and gives us tips in study.
There is not much placement opportunities for the students of biotechnology compared to the students of b.tech. basically the placement is based on a merit list so not All students are benefited with this kind of placements only the students who wear like gold medalist where awarded this placement. For the the students in the BTech where awarded with better job opportunities and placement.
