GECA Admission Process
Admission routes differ by programme. BE seats are allotted through the DTE Maharashtra Centralised Admission Process (CAP), while postgraduate and doctoral programmes use their respective entrance tests and selection procedures.
| Course | Accepted Exam or Admission Route |
|---|---|
| BE | MHT CET or JEE Main through DTE Maharashtra CAP |
| BE Lateral Entry | Diploma in Engineering through DTE Maharashtra Direct Second Year CAP |
| ME | GATE through DTE Maharashtra ME CAP |
| MCA | MAH MCA CET through DTE Maharashtra MCA CAP |
| PhD | GECA entrance test followed by an interview |
BE Admission
All 360 government-aided BE seats are allotted through online DTE Maharashtra CAP counselling according to MHT CET or JEE Main rank. Government-aided seats do not have a direct admission route or management quota.
- Eligibility: Applicants need 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The minimum aggregate is 45% for the General category and 40% for reserved categories.
- Entrance requirement: Selection uses the MHT CET or JEE Main percentile.
- Selection procedure: Students complete entrance registration, register for CAP, verify their documents, submit online college and branch choices, participate in seat allotment and report to the college after receiving a seat.
ME and MCA Admission
For ME, applicants enter the DTE Maharashtra ME CAP using their GATE scores. MCA selection is based on the MAH MCA CET score. Both programmes follow an online CAP process that includes choice filling and multiple seat-allotment rounds managed by DTE Maharashtra.
PhD Admission
GECA selects PhD applicants through an institute-level entrance examination and interview. Applicants who hold a valid GATE score are typically excused from the written examination. Research opportunities are available in Electrical Engineering and other departments, depending on supervisor availability.
GECA Cutoffs
MHT CET cutoffs at GECA change according to the branch, applicant numbers, category and available seats. Computer Science and Engineering and Information Technology have the highest competition, while Civil and Mechanical Engineering generally admit General category students at lower percentiles.
| BE Branch | Typical General Category MHT CET Percentile |
|---|---|
| Computer Science and Engineering and Information Technology | 95 to 99 percentile |
| Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering | 75 to 85 percentile |
The category-wise cutoff levels for OBC, SC and ST applicants are considerably lower. Actual cutoffs can change each year based on seat availability and the number of applicants.
GECA Placements
During GECA placements 2025, BE graduates received a highest package of INR 11.5 LPA and a median package of INR 5.80 LPA. Across the college, the placement rate stood at 54.04%.
| Branch | Placement Rate (2025) | Key Sectors |
|---|---|---|
| CSE and IT | 90% | IT services, product companies and software development |
| Electronics and Telecommunication | 85 to 90% | Embedded systems, telecommunications and electronics manufacturing |
| Mechanical Engineering | 50 to 70% | Automotive, manufacturing and core engineering |
| Electrical Engineering | 50 to 70% | Power utilities, automation and electrical firms |
| Civil Engineering | 50 to 65% | Construction, infrastructure and government services |
IT employers mainly recruit students from CSE and IT, while core engineering companies hire from Mechanical, Civil and Electrical Engineering. GECA graduates also receive recognition within Maharashtra's public sector and government engineering departments because of the institute's government status and BATU affiliation. Before recruitment begins, the placement cell trains students in aptitude, communication and technical skills.
GECA Scholarships
Students from reserved categories and economically weaker families can apply for government scholarships and fee concessions. The available support depends on category, family income and the rules of each scheme.
| Scholarship | Eligibility | Coverage |
|---|---|---|
| Government of Maharashtra Freeship (SC/ST) | SC/ST students studying in government-aided colleges | Full waiver of tuition and examination fees, reducing the BE fee to INR 2,101 |
| Government of Maharashtra EBC Scheme | General category students whose parental income is below INR 8 Lakhs | Partial fee concession |
| Rajashi Chhatrapati Scholarship (OBC) | OBC students whose parental income is below INR 8 Lakhs | The OBC fee is capped at 50% of the General category fee |
| National Scholarship Portal (NSP) | Minority, SC/ST and OBC students who meet the relevant income conditions | INR 10,000 to 25,000 per year, depending on the scheme |
The Maharashtra Freeship scheme brings the full four-year BE fee for SC/ST students down to INR 2,101. OBC students pay INR 1,61,501, which is less than half of the INR 3,23,501 General category fee.
GECA Campus and Infrastructure
GECA occupies a 33-acre campus in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad). Its facilities include the main academic building, engineering department laboratories, a central library, cafeteria, sports ground and gymnasium. Departments operate their own subject-specific labs and workshops, while computing and electronics laboratories support students in CSE, IT and E&TC.
Separate accommodation is provided for male and female students, subject to available hostel seats. The boys' hostel fee is up to INR 28,200 per year, and the girls' hostel fee is up to INR 23,400 per year.
GECA vs SGGS Nanded vs GCE Amravati
Students considering GECA through DTE Maharashtra CAP may also compare it with SGGS Institute of Engineering and Technology, Nanded, and Government College of Engineering, Amravati. These are Maharashtra state government engineering colleges that serve students across Marathwada and Vidarbha.
| Parameter | GECA Aurangabad | SGGS Nanded | GCE Amravati |
