CUP Admission Dates 2027

CUET UG and CUET PG scores, both administered by NTA, determine admission to most undergraduate and postgraduate courses at Central University of Punjab. JEE Main scores apply to B.Tech and the integrated B.Tech + M.Tech programme, followed by centralised seat allocation through JoSAA or CSAB. For PhD admission, CUP conducts its own entrance test and an interview. The expected schedule for the 2027-28 admission cycle is listed below.

MA Geography and some applied-science MA courses cost slightly more than pure humanities MA programmes because they include fieldwork and laboratory components. The listed PhD amount covers the first 3 years. CUP regulations provide lower per-semester charges when a research scholar needs extension semesters.

CUP Admission Process

CUP mainly selects students using scores from central entrance examinations. CUET is the admission test for most UG and PG programmes, while the technology programmes require JEE Main.

UG programmes: Applicants to BA, B.Sc, BBA, BA + LLB, B.Pharm, and BS + MS Biological Sciences must pass Class 12 or an equivalent examination from a recognised board. CUP maps each course to relevant CUET UG domain subjects and the general test. Applicants need at least 45% in Class 12, while SC, ST, and PwD applicants receive a 5% relaxation.

B.Tech and integrated B.Tech + M.Tech: Applicants must study Physics and Mathematics as compulsory Class 12 subjects and hold a valid JEE Main score. The minimum Class 12 aggregate is 50%, with a 5% relaxation for SC, ST, and PwD categories. JoSAA and CSAB conduct centralised counselling for seat allocation.

PG programmes: Admission to MA, MBA, M.Sc, M.Tech, M.Pharm, M.Ed, LLM, M.Com, M.Lib.I.Sc, and MPA requires a relevant bachelor's degree from a UGC-recognised university. The required aggregate is 50%, reduced to 45% for SC, ST, and PwD applicants. Selection depends on a valid CUET PG score in the subject paper code assigned by CUP to the chosen programme.

PhD programmes: Applicants need a postgraduate degree with at least 55%, or 50% for SC, ST, and PwD categories. CUP normally selects candidates through its entrance examination and an interview. NET, GATE, GPAT, or SLET-qualified applicants do not take the written test and proceed directly to the interview.

The admission steps are:

  1. Take CUET UG, CUET PG, or JEE Main, as required for the selected programme.
  2. After the result is declared, register through CUP's admission portal.
  3. Enter programme preferences and pay the counselling fee.
  4. Wait for the merit list, which considers the entrance score, category, and order of programme preferences.
  5. Complete document verification and pay the required fee at the CUP office to confirm enrolment.

CUP Placements

CUP's Training and Placement Cell mainly supports recruitment for students of MBA, M.Sc, M.Tech, M.Pharm, and LLM. Since the university has a strong research focus, many graduates choose doctoral study, competitive examinations, government employment, or independent professional practice instead of campus recruitment.

In the 2025 batch, campus drives placed 120 of 170 eligible PG students. The university hosted 45 companies, which made 135 offers. The highest salary package reached INR 6 LPA, and the average package was INR 4 LPA.

TCS, Wipro, Cognizant, and Sun Pharma are among the prominent recruiters. Pharmaceutical manufacturers in the Punjab and Himachal Pradesh corridor hire Pharmacy graduates. LLM students receive opportunities with law firms and government legal departments, while the Agribusiness and Hospitality specialisations help MBA students enter those sectors. CUP alumni also qualify each year for UPSC, SSC, and state public service commission examinations.

CUP Rankings

CUP recorded its best positions in the University, Pharmacy, and Law categories of NIRF 2025. Its research record includes a SCOPUS institutional h-index of 130, more than 4,900 indexed publications, and 1,35,000 citations as of 2026.

The university's NIRF University positions, from newest to oldest, were 77th in 2025, 83rd in 2024, 100th in 2023, 81st in 2022, 84th in 2021, 87th in 2020, and 95th in 2019. Its 20th-place Pharmacy position puts it among India's leading pharmacy schools. The 40th rank in Law is significant for a multidisciplinary institution that does not follow a dedicated national law school structure. CUP has also received recognition for having the highest per capita research funding among newly established central universities.

CUP Scholarships

Students can seek financial help through category-based fee waivers, university tuition support, research fellowships, and paid campus work. These options help reserved-category students and those from economically weaker families lower their education expenses.

CUP Campus and Infrastructure

CUP occupies a 500-acre campus at VPO-Ghudda in Bathinda, Punjab. It follows GRIHA-IV green-building standards and is one of the few central university campuses with formal sustainability certification. Plastic-free operations and energy-efficient practices are followed across the campus.

Teaching and research facilities include air-conditioned classrooms, specialised science and technology laboratories, a 125-seat seminar hall, and an air-conditioned auditorium with 250 seats. Doctoral and postdoctoral researchers can use advanced analytical and characterisation equipment at the Central Instrumentation Laboratory. The Computer Centre supports research that requires computing resources, while the library provides printed material and access to digital databases.

As of August 2026, CUP had a SCOPUS institutional h-index of 130, more than 4,900 indexed publications, and over 1,35,000 citations. It is recognised for the highest per capita research funding among the newer central universities. An R&D Cell supports research activity, and the International Student Division manages international academic links and active collaborations with overseas institutions.

The fully residential campus contains 10 hostels, divided equally into five for male students and five for female students. Each hostel provides free Wi-Fi, furnished rooms with a bed, mattress, study table, chair, and almirah, along with round-the-clock water and electricity. Other services include housekeeping, hygienic mess facilities, a reading room in every hostel, and a shared room with a television. Students coming from outside Bathinda can live on campus for the length of their programme.

CUP vs Central University of Haryana vs Central University of Himachal Pradesh

CUP, Central University of Haryana, and Central University of Himachal Pradesh were all created under the 2009 group of Central University Acts. Students comparing these northern Indian central universities can consider their rankings, course range, and subject strengths.

Among these three universities, CUP holds the highest 2025 NIRF University rank at 77 and has an NAAC A+ grade. It also offers professional undergraduate courses such as B.Tech, B.Pharm, BA + LLB, and an integrated technology degree. CUH and CUHP have similar postgraduate options in liberal arts and sciences at comparable fee levels, but neither provides undergraduate engineering or pharmaceutical science programmes. Students seeking a professional UG degree within the central university fee system therefore have more such options at CUP.
