The Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University (TNDALU) was established by the Government of Tamil Nadu in 1997 and is recognized by both the BCI and the UGC. In September 2022, the university was accredited with a B++ grade by the NAAC. TNDALU is also a member of the Association of Indian Universities and the Indian Institute of Public Administration, New Delhi. In 2024, the university is ranked 25th out of 40 law colleges in India by the IIRF.

TNDALU offers various courses like BA LLB, BBA LLB, BCom LLB, and LLB at the undergraduate level. To get eligible for admission in BA LLB, BBA LLB, or BCom LLB, a candidate must score an aggregate of 70% and 60% for the reserved category. For admission to LLB, a candidate must have a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university with an aggregate of 60% and 55% for SC and ST students. For integrated law programs like BA LLB, and BBA LLB the fee is INR 3.36 lakhs. The course fee for LLB is INR 1.97 lakhs.

TNDALU also offers an LLM course. The candidate interested in this should have an LLB or Integrated LLB degree from a recognized university with an aggregate score of 45% and 40% for SC and ST students. The course fee for LLM is INR 70.2k. Selection to all the UG and PG courses will be done based on merit on the marks obtained on the qualifying exams.

TNDALU also has PhD courses. Candidates possessing a two-year Master’s Degree in Law from any recognized university and having secured a minimum of 55% of marks in the aggregate will be eligible for PhD admissions. The university conducts a common entrance test for the PhD students, in which they need to score a minimum of 50%. Those who have qualified for NET/SLET/SET will be exempted from the entrance test.
