Tripura University completes admission through entrance scores and online university counselling. Counselling begins after the relevant results are announced. The annual admission cycle generally starts between January and April.
UG applicants need 50% in Class 12 and must take CUET UG. The university offers B.Ed, BBA, BA + B.Ed and the integrated BA {Hons.} + MA programme at this level.
| Course | Eligibility |
|---|---|
| B.Ed | 10+2 with 50% + CUET UG |
| BBA | |
| BA + B.Ed | |
| BA {Hons.} + MA |
For UG admission, students must take the following steps:
CUET PG is the main admission route for most PG programmes. MA, M.Sc and L.L.M. applicants use CUET PG, while MBA admission requires CAT. M.Tech accepts GATE or CUET PG scores.
| Course | Eligibility | Entrance Exam |
|---|---|---|
| MA | Graduation + CUET PG | CUET PG |
| M.Sc | Graduation + CUET PG | CUET PG |
| M.Tech | Graduation + CUET PG | GATE / CUET PG |
| MBA | Graduation with 50% + CAT | CAT |
| L.L.M. | LLB + CUET PG | CUET PG |
PG admission follows this process:
For M.Tech, applicants holding a valid GATE score are generally considered before other candidates. If seats remain, the university may fill them through CUET PG or university counselling, depending on availability.
PhD applicants must hold a postgraduate qualification with 60%. Selection may involve RET, UGC-NET, CSIR-NET, JRF or the University Entrance Test.
| Course | Eligibility | Entrance Exam |
|---|---|---|
| Ph.D | Post Graduation with 60% + RET | UGC-NET / CSIR-NET / JRF or University Entrance Test |
Students seeking PhD admission must follow the applicable entrance and university selection procedure. NET or JRF holders may receive preference or become eligible for a direct interview. Other applicants must complete the University Entrance Test or RET, as required, before taking part in the remaining admission stages.
The university's programmes cover humanities, sciences and professional fields. Its academic options also support students interested in higher studies, NET or JRF preparation and academic careers.
Tripura University Admission Guidance
Ques. What level of competition should applicants expect at Tripura University?
Ans. Admission competition is moderate when compared with leading central universities. Professional and science programmes usually attract greater demand, while humanities courses tend to have lower cutoffs. Students with a decent CUET score generally have a good chance if they complete every counselling round correctly.
Ques. Is admission possible without joining the university counselling process?
Ans. No. Tripura University does not offer direct admission outside its official procedure. Applicants must register for counselling, and seats are assigned through the merit list and counselling rounds.
After qualifying in the relevant entrance exam, applicants must sign up on the Tripura University admission portal and submit their programme choices. Seat allotment depends on the entrance score, category, order of preference and available seats. Selected students must then pay the fee and complete document verification. The university may hold more rounds when seats remain vacant. Missing a stated deadline can lead to cancellation of the allotted seat.
Note: Valid GATE score holders are generally given first consideration for M.Tech. Vacant seats may later be offered through CUET PG or university counselling.
Ques. Which facilities support research students at Tripura University?
Ans. Research students can use departmental laboratories, research centres in science, humanities and social sciences, and a central library with digital databases and e-journals. Tripura University also supports UGC-funded PhD projects. These resources can be used for academic research and NET or JRF preparation.
Ques. When can applicants revise their counselling choices?
Ans. Applicants may add, remove or rearrange programme preferences while the choice-filling window is open. Once choices are locked and the deadline has passed, they cannot be edited for that counselling round.
Ques. Can students leave an integrated programme after completing its UG stage?
Ans. Yes. Under UGC multiple-exit guidelines, a student may leave after the UG phase and receive the applicable certificate, diploma or degree. The student must meet the credit conditions and Tripura University rules.
Ques. How much does counselling registration usually cost?
Ans. Tripura University generally collects a non-refundable counselling fee:
The amount may change according to the programme and admission year.
