Tripura University Courses and Fees

More than 80 programmes are available across Humanities, Social Sciences, Sciences, Management, Law, Technology, Pharmacy, Education, and other fields. The following table lists the duration and total fee for the main course groups, based on the semester-wise fee schedule.

The M.Tech specialisations cover CSE, ECE, IT, Electrical Engineering, Material Science, and Chemical and Polymer Engineering. The university also runs an M.A. in Kokborok, the indigenous Tripuri language, which is not commonly offered by other central universities.

Tripura University Admission Process

Entrance scores determine admission to the university's undergraduate, integrated, and postgraduate courses. The university conducts counselling and seat allotment after the relevant entrance results. Research applicants follow a separate department-level selection process.

UG and Integrated Programme Admission

CUET-UG scores are used for every undergraduate course and five-year integrated UG-PG programme.

• Eligibility: Applicants must have completed 10+2 through a recognised board.
• Entrance test: CUET-UG conducted by the National Testing Agency
• Steps: Submit the CUET application through the NTA portal during the application period, appear for the test, and join Tripura University's merit-based counselling.

PG Programme Admission

Admission to MA, M.Sc, MBA, MCA, LLM, M.Tech, M.Pharm, M.P.Ed, M.Lib, and M.T.A. depends on CUET-PG performance.

• Eligibility: A relevant graduation degree with at least 50% marks is required. Technical programmes require at least 55% marks.
• Entrance test: CUET-PG conducted by NTA
• Steps: Provide the CUET-PG score, attend university counselling, accept the allotted seat, complete document verification, and pay the course fee.

MBA applicants are primarily assessed through their CUET-PG score in the Management subject. At the department level, previous work experience receives favourable consideration.

Ph.D Admission

Individual departments hold Ph.D admission rounds twice each year.

• Eligibility: A postgraduate degree in the relevant subject with a minimum of 55% marks
• Qualifying route: UGC-NET/JRF or the Tripura University Research Entrance Test (RET)
• Steps: Attend the departmental interview, present the research proposal, and complete the final supervisor allocation process.

Tripura University Placements and Career Outcomes

The placement cell mainly supports campus hiring for MBA, MCA, and M.Tech students. Postgraduate students placed during 2023-24 recorded a median salary of INR 7.20 LPA, compared with INR 5.50 LPA in 2023. Recruitment and career opportunities cover IT, education, research, government services, and corporate organisations.

Many graduates from MA, M.Sc, and Humanities courses prepare for UPSC, Tripura PSC, state government recruitment, and UGC-NET for academic roles. Ph.D graduates generally move into faculty jobs, research fellowships, or government research laboratories.

IT firms, NBFCs, and educational institutions take part in recruitment drives. Most corporate placements are available to MBA and MCA batches. Among eligible postgraduate students in IT and Management, the placement rate is 70%. MBA graduates commonly enter BFSI, retail, and FMCG roles, where starting salaries range from INR 5 to 9 LPA according to the role and sector.

Tripura University Rankings

The university appeared in two 2025 institutional rankings. NIRF placed it in the 151-200 band in the Overall category, while IIRF assigned it the 44th position among universities in India.

Its NAAC accreditation is B++, supported by a score of 2.8 on a 4-point scale.

Tripura University Campus and Infrastructure

The main campus is situated at Suryamaninagar in West Tripura, 12 km from central Agartala. Road access is available through the Agartala-Sabroom National Highway corridor.

Academic facilities include smart classrooms, a central library, computer laboratories, and separate research laboratories for Engineering and Science. Students also have access to an activity centre. Men's and women's hostels together accommodate more than 1,800 students and provide Wi-Fi and mess services. The sports complexes support football, cricket, volleyball, athletics, and other outdoor activities.

Special academic and administrative units on campus include the Women's Studies Centre, the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), and the Centre for Tribal Languages and Culture. These centres support fields connected with the academic priorities of Northeast India.

Tripura University vs Assam University vs Mizoram University

Tripura University, Assam University in Silchar, and Mizoram University in Aizawl are central universities serving applicants from Northeast India. All three attract CUET-PG candidates from the northeastern states. Their main differences are shown below.

Of these universities, Tripura University has the highest NAAC accreditation score and provides a wider selection of M.Tech and M.Pharm courses. Silchar's connectivity gives Assam University access to a broader geographic area. Mizoram University is particularly suitable for programmes focused on indigenous and tribal studies of the Mizo region.
