BCKV Admission Process
BCKV uses different entrance tests and counselling routes for undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral admission. Applicants must meet the course-specific academic requirements and qualify through the relevant route.
B.Sc Agriculture and Horticulture Admission
For B.Sc (Hons.) Agriculture and B.Sc (Hons.) Horticulture, 25% of seats are allotted through ICAR AIEEA UG, the All India Entrance Examination for Admission to Agricultural Universities conducted by ICAR, New Delhi. West Bengal state counselling fills the other 75% of seats using Class 12 marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics/Agriculture.
- Applicants must pass Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Agriculture.
- They must have at least 50% marks; the minimum is 45% for SC/ST students.
- Eligible students compete through ICAR AIEEA UG for the 25% national quota or West Bengal state counselling for the remaining 75% of seats.
BCKV admits undergraduate students each year across its three UG programmes.
B.Tech Agricultural Engineering Admission
Applicants for B.Tech Agricultural Engineering need Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and at least 60% marks. Admission is offered through WBJEE, the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination, and/or ICAR AIEEA UG.
M.Sc and M.Tech Admission
Postgraduate seats are filled through ICAR AIEEA PG and BCKV's REFET, or Research Entrance cum Fellowship Eligibility Test. The ICAR route accounts for the 25% ICAR National Talent Scholarship quota, while REFET is used for state-quota admission. M.Sc Agriculture applicants need a B.Sc Agriculture or related degree with at least 60% marks. ICAR PG scholarship holders are selected on merit within the ICAR quota and receive a fellowship stipend.
Ph.D Admission
BCKV conducts Ph.D admission twice a year. Students may qualify through BCKV REFET or national fellowship examinations such as ICAR SRF/NET and CSIR-NET. Priority is given to applicants holding a valid ICAR SRF or another national fellowship. The relevant department conducts the interview used for final selection.

BCKV Campus and Infrastructure
BCKV has a fully residential campus at Mohanpur in Nadia, West Bengal. The Agriculture, Horticulture and Agricultural Engineering faculties are based on the main campus. It also has separate hostels for male and female students and a four-storey Central Library. Inaugurated in 1980, the library covers 5,575 sq. m. Research stations at Burdwan and Susunia in Bankura allow the university to work across different agroclimatic regions.
Established in 1996, the Faculty of Horticulture uses dedicated greenhouses and field demonstration plots. Agricultural Engineering students have access to workshops and machinery-testing facilities. Across the three faculties, the university has 214 faculty members.
Hostel accommodation costs INR 1,610 to INR 1,642 per month. Mohanpur lies 60 km north of Kolkata. Students can reach the area by rail from Shantipur and by road from Kalyani.
BCKV vs UBKV vs OUAT
Students considering agricultural universities in eastern India may compare BCKV with Uttar Banga Krishi Viswavidyalaya in Cooch Behar and Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology in Bhubaneswar. UBKV is West Bengal's other agricultural university, while OUAT is a comparable institution in the neighbouring state of Odisha. All three attract applicants through ICAR or their respective state-level admission routes.
| Parameter | BCKV, West Bengal | UBKV, West Bengal | OUAT, Odisha |
|---|---|---|---|
| Established | 1974 | 1974 | 1962 |
| NIRF Agriculture 2025 | 16 (score 57.64) | Not in top 20 | Not in top 20 |
| Location | Mohanpur, Nadia, WB | Pundibari, Cooch Behar, WB | Bhubaneswar, Odisha |
| Admission | ICAR AIEEA and WBJEE | ICAR AIEEA and WB state | ICAR AIEEA and Odisha JEE |
| B.Sc Agriculture Total Fee | INR 98,200 (4 years) | Comparable state rates | Comparable state rates |
| Hostel (per month) | INR 1,610 to INR 1,642 | Low residential rates | Low residential rates |
| Faculty Count | 214 | Smaller faculty | Larger faculty |
BCKV's 16th position in the 2025 NIRF Agriculture ranking places it ahead of UBKV and OUAT, neither of which appeared in the top 20 that year. This makes BCKV the higher-ranked in-state choice for a West Bengal student who qualifies through ICAR AIEEA. Students from Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling and Cooch Behar often prefer UBKV because its North Bengal location is closer to them. OUAT mainly attracts students from Odisha, who may also seek BCKV admission through the ICAR quota.
