NICER Integrated M.Sc. Admission

NICER conducts the Integrated M.Sc. programme over 5 years. Applicants need a science-stream 10+2 qualification with at least 60% marks. Selection takes place through NEST, followed by merit-based counselling conducted by the National Institute of Science Education and Research.

Eligibility Criteria:

Students seeking admission to the Integrated M.Sc. must meet these conditions:

• The applicant must have completed the 10+2 or an equivalent examination in the science stream through a recognised board.
• A minimum aggregate score of 60% is required, while SC, ST and PwD applicants need 55%.
• Students who passed 10+2 during the previous three years through any recognised Indian board can also apply.

Selection Process:

The Integrated M.Sc. selection procedure includes the following stages:

• Admission depends on the National Entrance Screening Test (NEST), which NISER and CEBS conduct jointly.
• NEST tests students in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics.
• The merit list is prepared using the overall and section-wise NEST cutoffs.
• Students shortlisted through the merit list attend counselling and document verification before admission is confirmed.

NICER M.Sc. (MRP) Admission

NICER offers a specialised 2-year M.Sc. in Medical and Radiological Physics (MRP). The course includes a hospital internship and trains students for work in medical physics.

Eligibility Criteria:

• Applicants must hold a B.Sc. with Physics as the main subject.
• Students with a valid JAM or JEST qualification are accepted for consideration.

Selection Process:

• MRP applicants must take a written test and attend an interview.
• The final decision considers academic performance and test scores.

NICER Ph.D. Admission

NICER runs Ph.D. programmes through specialised schools covering different science disciplines. A Ph.D. normally lasts 3 to 5 years. The institute uses national-level examination scores to shortlist applicants before conducting its written test and interview.

Eligibility Criteria:

Admission to a Ph.D. programme is subject to these requirements:

• Applicants need a relevant science Master's degree with 55% to 60% marks.
• NICER considers candidates who have qualified through GATE, CSIR-NET, JEST, DBT or GPAT.
• In specific cases, an exceptional B.Sc. graduate may be considered for direct Ph.D. admission.

• Shortlisting considers academic merit and performance in GATE, CSIR-NET, JEST, DBT or GPAT.
