IISER TVM Admission Dates 2026

The BS-MS, M.Sc, integrated M.Sc + Ph.D., and Ph.D. programmes follow separate selection schedules. The upcoming stages for the December 2026 Ph.D. intake are listed below.

IISER TVM Courses and Fees

Students can choose from the BS-MS dual degree, a standalone M.Sc, an integrated M.Sc + Ph.D., and Ph.D. study across the institute's six schools. Charges are collected semester-wise.

BS-MS students study a broad range of sciences before selecting a major at the end of their second year. Their fifth year includes a thesis project that provides a complete year of practical research experience before graduation. The M.Sc curriculum is flexible and includes project work lasting one year.

IISER TVM Admission Process

Admission requirements vary by programme. BS-MS selection is conducted centrally through IAT, while the M.Sc and research programmes have their own tests, interviews, and qualification requirements.

BS-MS Admission

Beginning in 2026, the IISER Aptitude Test (IAT) became the only route for BS-MS admission to IISER TVM and the other IISERs. JEE Advanced is no longer an accepted admission channel. IAT is a computer-based examination lasting three hours, with questions from Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics. Applicants need Class 12 with PCM or PCB and at least 60% aggregate. The minimum is 55% for SC, ST, and PwD applicants.

1. Complete IAT registration through the central IISER admission portal at iiseradmission.in.
2. Appear for the computer-based IAT covering the four Class 12 science subjects.
3. After the result, arrange the IISERs in order of preference during choice filling.
4. Seat offers are made through the IAT discipline-wise merit list and the submitted preferences.
5. Complete verification and enrolment after receiving an IISER TVM offer.

• Reservations for SC, ST, OBC, and PwD applicants follow Central Government rules.

M.Sc Admission

For subjects covered by IIT JAM, M.Sc selection considers the applicant's IIT JAM score and is followed by an institute-level written test and interview. Applicants must have a B.Sc or equivalent qualification in the relevant subject with at least 55% marks. Applications are invited once each year.

1. Submit the M.Sc application for the relevant discipline.
2. Provide a valid IIT JAM score where the subject uses JAM.
3. Take the institute-specific written examination and attend the interview.
4. Complete admission after selection and document verification.

Ph.D. Admission

Ph.D. admissions are organised in two yearly rounds: a July intake, for which applications generally run from January to March, and a December intake, whose applications are usually accepted from October to November. Preference is given to applicants holding a valid CSIR/UGC-NET JRF, GATE, DBT-JRF, or DST-INSPIRE score. Those without a fellowship qualification may take the IISER Ph.D. entrance examination and then attend a faculty interview.

1. Apply to the school that matches the proposed research field.
2. Submit the applicable fellowship or qualifying examination score, or take the institute's Ph.D. entrance test.
3. Attend the faculty interview.
4. Before enrolment, receive a supervisor assignment based on available faculty members and alignment with the proposed research area.

IISER TVM Career Outcomes

IISER TVM concentrates on education and research rather than operating formal campus placement drives. Many graduates move into Ph.D. study, postdoctoral work, teaching, government laboratories, academic positions, or industrial research and development.

Every year, a notable proportion of BS-MS graduates enter doctoral programmes at universities in the USA, UK, Germany, and Singapore. Direct entry into the technology sector is also becoming more common among graduates of the Data Science track. The School of Earth, Environmental and Sustainability Sciences supports routes into atmospheric research, environmental consulting, and climate science, which are less commonly available at Indian science institutes.

IISER TVM Rankings

In the NIRF assessment, IISER TVM appears in the Overall category. Its 2025 position was in the 151 to 200 band. Compared with the institute's age and campus size, its research output and faculty publication record are notable.

IISER TVM Campus and Infrastructure

IISER TVM's 200-acre residential campus stands at Vithura in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, 40 km from the city centre. Its Western Ghats foothill setting is next to the Agasthyamalai Biosphere Reserve, forest reserve areas, and tea estates. The location gives the campus a distinctive ecological setting and supports fieldwork by the School of Biology and the School of Earth, Environmental and Sustainability Sciences.

IISER TVM Scholarships

Financial support at IISER TVM includes undergraduate scholarships, research grants, M.Sc assistance, and fellowships for doctoral scholars. Eligibility and award amounts differ by scheme.

An eligible BS-MS student can receive INR 4,00,000 through DST-INSPIRE across five years. Against the programme fee of INR 5,80,000, this reduces the student's net payment to INR 1,80,000. SC and ST students may also apply for Post-Matric and Central Government tribal scholarships through the NSP portal.

IISER TVM vs IISER Bhopal vs IISER Mohali

The central IAT counselling process allows BS-MS applicants to list several IISERs in their preferred order. IISER TVM is often considered alongside IISER Bhopal and IISER Mohali because all three were founded during 2007 to 2008 and have comparable programme formats.

Among these institutes, IISER TVM has particular strengths in campus ecology, Western Ghats biodiversity access, Earth Sciences, and Data Science. IISER Bhopal combines the basic sciences with a wider academic range that includes Engineering Sciences. IISER Mohali is close to Chandigarh and has an established Structural Biology research cluster. Each institution awards the same nationally recognised BS-MS dual degree under the IISER Act.
