IISER Trivandrum BS+MS Admission Criteria 2024

BS-MS courses by IISER Trivandrum is a 5-year dual degree. Is the flagship program of all IISERs. The initial two years of the course involve work in all the subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, Humanities, and Interdisciplinary courses). In the latter two years, the students will have to choose courses in a ‘Major’ and a ‘Minor’ subject as per their research interests. The final year is only spent on a research project in the Major subject they have opted for. BS-MS program is offered in Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.

Eligibility Criteria

Only a few students are eligible for admission to the BS-MS COURSE, the eligibility criteria include only three ways:

• KISHORE VAIGYANI PROTSHAN YONA (KVPY) for Basic Science Stream: Students who obtained a KVPY scholarship (in SA / SX / SB streams) in the present academic year.
• JEE ENTRANCE EXAMINATION (Advanced): Students who have secured a good rank in the CRL of Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced)
• State and Central Boards (referred to as SCB CHANNEL): Students who have obtained a specified percentage in their +2 board and have cleared an exam conducted by IISER with collaboration with JDP presently.

With the present scenario in mind, the board has declared the eligibility criteria through SCB. The eligibility criteria for admission to IISERs this year will stand at 60% (or equivalent) at the +2 level for General candidates and 55% for SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy) candidates for all eligible boards. Students whose board examination results are not available at the time of the IAT will be allowed to appear in the examination Candidates with the valid JEE Advanced/ KVPY cut-offs are eligible for admission.

• For SC/ST and Kashmiri Migrant up-and-comers, the cut-off percentage is 55%. Admission to the applicants is given through any of JEE/KVPY/SCB channels.
• Candidates with KVPY are confirmed KVPY, while candidates who have obtained a rank below 10, 000 in the Common Rank List of JEE are called for admission to the course.
• Through the SCB method, candidates who have passed 10+2 with Science stream from a State and Central Board are given admission.

Selection Criteria

• The BS-MS takes the support of kVPY, SCB and JEE Advanced to conduct counsellings to a short number of people. The rank cut-off is released for different categories after the examinations.

IISER Trivandrum PhD Admission Criteria 2024

A student can get enrolled in the doctoral program after procuring a master’s degree in science. Also, the applicants with the dual-degree BS-MS program, postgraduate students with a master’s degree in science from other Universities/Institutes would be admitted to the PhD program. The program involves compulsory course work, a qualifying examination, thesis research under the guidance of a professor, an open seminar, and a dissertation defense examination, which would help the student procure his\her Ph.D. DEGREE award. The course work varies depending on which background the student has come from.

Eligibility Criteria

• For admission to the course, the applicant must have qualified a master’s degree from an acknowledged institute/ university with a minimum of 60% of marks or 7.5 CGPA on a 10-point scale (or first-class equivalent) or first class Master’s degree (55%of marks for SC/ST applicants)
• The student must have qualified in either of the following examinations: CSIR-UGC, UGC-NET-JRF, and GATE with validity as of August 2023.

Note: For PhD Biology, it is made compulsory for all the students to submit a short research proposal of 300-400 words, which should state a research problem of personal interest and how you approach solving the problem. The proposal will be used to evaluate the candidate’s scientific aptitude and is a criterion for shortlisting a group for interview sessions.

IISER Trivandrum Integrated PhD Admission Criteria 2024

Admission to the Integrated PhD course is provided after obtaining a B.Sc degree in any of the basic sciences subjects. After completion of coursework specified exclusively and a written exam, they progressed to research for their PhD Course with the help of a professor. The duration varies from 6 to 7 years.

Eligibility Criteria

• A Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences/Chemical Sciences/ Mathematical Sciences/ Physical Sciences/ Engineering/ Technology and related areas as applicable to individual Schools, under the 10+2+3/4 system.
• Students admitted to the School of Physics must have a good score in the Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST).
• The minimum requirement is a 55% percentage of marks or 6.0 out of 10 CGPA in the Bachelor’s degree.

Selection Criteria

• A shortlist of people who have applied for the biology or chemistry or mathematics schools will be called out for a written examination who will be again short-listed for an interview session.
• In the School of Physics, candidates with a qualifying JEST score will be called for the interview.
