IIST Scholarships 2026

IIST provides scholarships for meritorious students and students from weaker sections of society. The scholarship details cover both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

M.Tech students who have a valid GATE score receive scholarships through AICTE.

IIST Courses & Fees FAQs 2026

Ques. How can a student apply for an IIST year-round internship?

Ans. IIST conducts year-round internships and projects along with summer internships. These may run for 3 months to 12 months. An external student must first find a Faculty Supervisor at IIST in the chosen stream. After the student and supervisor discuss and agree on the work, the student can apply through the IIST website with a detailed work plan. The Faculty Supervisor endorses the project plan and sends it to the internship committee for approval. If selected, the student receives the internship or project offer letter from the Dean of Student Activities. Students from an Indian Institution or University can be considered for internships or projects lasting 3 to 12 months. The work must be part of the student's academic curriculum, and the student must submit a No Objection Certificate from the parent institution.

Ques. What does the SEDGs committee at IIST work on?

Ans. As per the UGC, Government of India guidelines dated January 2024 for equitable opportunities for Socio-Economically Disadvantaged Groups in Higher Educational Institutions, IIST formed the committee for two years with immediate effect. The group works to protect the constitutional rights, dignity, safety and security of students from SEDGs. It also supports inclusive, safe and equitable education, along with academic, emotional, socio-economic support and mentoring for SEDGs students. The committee looks after orientation programs, bridge courses and outreach work. It also implements and monitors schemes and policies meant for SEDGs by the Government and UGC.

Ques. Who can apply for the Abdul Kalam Postdoctoral Fellowship at IIST, and how long does it last?

Ans. IIST started the Abdul Kalam Postdoctoral Fellowship to honour the vision of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. The fellowship is meant for highly motivated young doctoral students with a strong research record who want to work on disruptive and cutting-edge research in fundamental science and engineering with societal relevance, in areas connected to research at IIST.

Indian citizens, including candidates with NRI/PIO status, and foreign nationals can apply. Applicants are preferably below 35 years. Candidates from SC/ST/OBC/Physically Challenged categories and Women candidates get age relaxation of five years. A PhD degree from a duly recognised Indian or foreign university or institute is required. Applicants must also have at least three lead author research publications in Q1 journals with a high impact factor. The fellowship is first offered for one year and may be extended for one more year after a performance review at the end of the first year.
