VSSUT Admission Dates 2027

VSSUT admissions for the 2026-27 academic session are over. For the next cycle, B.Tech admission will depend on JEE Main 2027 and OJEE 2027 counselling. M.Tech admission is based mainly on GATE, while M.Sc, MCA, and Integrated M.Sc admission is handled through OJEE.

VSSUT Courses and Fees

VSSUT offers more than 60 programmes at UG, PG, integrated, and doctoral levels. Since it is a government-funded university, its B.Tech fee remains among the lower fee structures for technical education in Odisha.

Among B.Tech branches, CSE and CSE (AI and ML) usually see the strongest demand and the lowest OJEE closing ranks. Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Safety and Fire Engineering, and Smart Manufacturing are among the core and specialised branches that make VSSUT different from many other engineering colleges in Odisha.

VSSUT Admission Process

Admission at VSSUT is based on entrance exams and counselling. The university does not have a management quota. B.Tech seats are filled through the central OJEE counselling system, while M.Tech admission follows a GATE-based route.

B.Tech Admission

For B.Tech, students must pass 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The minimum aggregate is 45% for General candidates and 40% for SC and ST candidates. A valid JEE Main score or OJEE score is needed.

The admission steps are:

• Qualify JEE Main or appear for OJEE
• Register on the OJEE counselling portal at ojee.nic.in
• Select and lock choices from the participating Odisha institutions
• Report to VSSUT after seat allotment with original documents
• Pay the required fee before the deadline to secure the seat

For CSE at VSSUT Burla, the OJEE closing rank for General category Lateral Entry B.Tech has been 24,500 in recent counselling rounds. Branches such as Metallurgical, Production, and Chemical Engineering generally have higher closing ranks because more seats are available.

B.Arch Admission

B.Arch applicants need 10+2 with Mathematics and at least 50% aggregate. Admission requires a valid NATA score or JEE Main Paper 2 score. Final selection is completed through OJEE Architecture counselling.

M.Tech Admission

For M.Tech, applicants must hold a B.Tech degree in the relevant discipline with at least 55% marks. A valid GATE score is required for the merit list. Non-GATE applicants are considered only if seats remain vacant after GATE-qualified candidates are allotted seats.

M.Sc, MCA, and Integrated M.Sc

M.Sc and MCA seats are filled through OJEE. M.Sc needs a B.Sc degree in the relevant discipline. MCA applicants can hold any UG degree, but Mathematics must be one of their subjects. Integrated M.Sc admission needs 10+2 with PCM and a minimum of 60%.

Ph.D. Admission

VSSUT holds its own entrance test for Ph.D. admission in July and January each year. Applicants must have a postgraduate degree in the relevant field. Shortlisted students are called for a personal interview before final selection.

VSSUT Placements

The Placement Cell at VSSUT manages recruitment for B.Tech, M.Tech, M.Sc, and MCA final-year students. In the 2025 placement season, 76 companies visited the university and made 639 job offers.

The highest package in 2025 stood at INR 24 LPA. For the 2024 graduating batch, the average CTC was INR 6.38 LPA. Most offers came from IT services, banking and financial services, and core manufacturing companies.

Confirmed recruiters include Amazon, TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Cognizant, Tata Steel, JP Morgan, UBS, Maruti Suzuki, Cummins India, and Digital Green. Students from Metallurgical, Mechanical, and Production branches also get routes into public sector undertakings such as SAIL, NALCO, NTPC, and ONGC through GATE-based and direct recruitment.

VSSUT Rankings

VSSUT Burla appears in the NIRF Engineering rankings and has been placed across more than one ranking cycle. Its performance is measured alongside IITs, NITs, other state-funded institutions, and large private universities.

In Odisha, VSSUT is the only state government technical university with the power to award its own degrees. This makes it different from government engineering colleges affiliated with BPUT.

VSSUT Scholarships

VSSUT students can apply for state and central government scholarships based on merit and family income. The university also has a Tuition Fee Waiver scheme for high-performing students.

Most scholarship forms are submitted through the Odisha Scholarship Portal or the National Scholarship Portal after admission is confirmed. TFW applications are handled through the VSSUT scholarship cell at the beginning of each academic year.

VSSUT Campus and Infrastructure

VSSUT has a 502-acre residential campus in Burla on the Sambalpur-Raipur highway. Academic departments, hostels, sports spaces, administrative offices, and other campus facilities are located inside the same campus.

The central library has more than 54,000 books and a digital resource section. Across the central computer centre and departmental laboratories, the campus has 920+ computers. A central research facility supports PG and Ph.D. work with advanced instruments such as SEM and XRD equipment. The university also has a 1,200-seat auditorium for convocations and events.

There are 12 hostels at VSSUT, with 7 for boys and 5 for girls. The annual hostel fee is up to INR 14,000. Medical emergencies are supported by the nearby VIMSAR hospital. NCC, NSS, and several student societies are active on campus. Students also have access to outdoor sports grounds and an indoor sports hall.

VSSUT vs CET Bhubaneswar vs IGIT Sarang

Students applying through OJEE often compare VSSUT Burla with CET Bhubaneswar and IGIT Sarang. All three are major state government engineering institutes in Odisha with similar admission routes and fee levels. Their main differences are degree authority, location, and branch strengths.

VSSUT is Odisha's only state technical university, so it has more academic autonomy and a stronger PSU-linked alumni network with organisations such as SAIL, NALCO, and NTPC. CET Bhubaneswar gets the advantage of being in the capital city, which gives students more exposure to IT companies. IGIT Sarang has a long history in core engineering and mining-related fields. VSSUT is usually stronger for core engineering and PSU-focused careers, while CET Bhubaneswar has a location advantage for software and IT roles.
