University of Jammu Important Dates

The next admission cycle, for 2027-28, is expected to begin in early 2027, with CUET UG and CUET PG as admission routes. The university's registration and allotment timelines below are tentative estimates based on the previous cycle. NTA has separately published its tentative CUET PG examination schedule in the official examination calendar.

University of Jammu Courses and Fees

Undergraduate, postgraduate, integrated and PhD study together account for more than 50 programmes across the university's 36 teaching departments. As a state government institution, it charges subsidised fees. Total programme fees range from INR 3,480 to INR 2.30 Lakhs.

Among the specialised choices are the MBA in Tourism and Hospitality Management and integrated BSc+MSc programmes in Geology and Human Genetics. BPA study includes Dogri folk instruments and performing arts options in Tabla, Sitar, Violin and Vocal. Working professionals can also pursue selected MA and MCom courses through the Directorate of Distance Education.

University of Jammu Admission Process

CUET and JUET scores support the university's centralised admission system. Selection uses a composite merit score, meaning a score that combines qualifying examination marks with entrance test performance. The share assigned to each component depends on the programme; the annual official prospectus explains these weightages.

1. Check the course requirements and obtain a valid score in an accepted entrance examination.
2. Complete online registration for the university's admission process.
3. Take part in the centralised seat allotment rounds according to the programme's merit rules.
4. Have the required documents verified after allotment.
5. Deposit the admission fee to complete the process.

Entrance routes differ across programme groups:

B.Tech Admission

The main Jammu campus offers B.Tech branches in Civil Engineering, Computer Science, and Electronics and Communication Engineering.

• Applicants need 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The minimum aggregate is 45%, reduced to 40% for SC/ST students.
• A valid CUET UG, JEE Main or JUET score provides an entrance route.
• Admission proceeds through entrance score checks, online registration, centralised allotment, document verification and fee payment.

MBA Admission

The Business School's flagship postgraduate management course offers three choices: Tourism and Hospitality Management, International Business, and General Management.

• A graduate from any discipline can apply with an aggregate of at least 50%. For SC/ST applicants, the minimum is 45%.
• Applicants must hold a valid CUET PG or JUET score.
• Entrance performance and graduation marks together determine the merit list.

Admission to BA LLB and LLB

For the integrated 5-year BA LLB, applicants need 45% in 10+2, or 40% if they belong to SC/ST categories. Selection uses JUET Law or CUET UG. The age ceiling is 20 years for the general category and 22 years for SC/ST applicants. The separate 3-year LLB requires graduation with 45% and a JUET Law or CLAT score.

Admission to Other Undergraduate, Postgraduate and PhD Courses

For BA, BSc, BCom, BBA and their 5-year integrated options, admission uses composite scores involving CUET UG and JUET. Applicants need 45% in 10+2 in the relevant stream. Separate MA, MSc and MCom courses require a relevant graduation qualification with 45 to 50%, while B.Ed requires 50% in graduation. PhD applicants must qualify through UGC NET, JKSET or LASET and then take the departmental research entrance test.

University of Jammu Placements

MBA students at The Business School, along with B.Tech and MCA students, account for much of the university's placement activity. NIRF 2025 records show 638 placements: 541 postgraduate students and 97 undergraduate students. The median annual packages for different programme lengths are listed below. LPA means lakhs per annum.

Campus recruiters include Airtel, Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Amazon, TCS and Accenture. Most recruitment comes from banking, IT services and telecom. University alumni also work in financial services firms such as Allstate India.

Before recruitment begins, the Placement Cell helps students through resume workshops, mock interviews and other preparation sessions. Within the university, The Business School's MBA batch attracts the most recruiter visits and records the highest median packages.

University of Jammu Rankings

NIRF 2025 placed University of Jammu at 51 in the University category and 21 among State Public Universities. Its category scores were 53.01 and 57.75, respectively. Within the University assessment, Teaching, Learning and Resources scored 71.09, while Graduation Outcomes scored 78.84.

The university's NAAC grade is A++, the highest grade awarded by NAAC, with a CGPA of 3.72. It was also India's first university to earn ISO-9001 certification for quality management.

University of Jammu Campus and Infrastructure

Bahu Wali Rakh, on Baba Saheb Ambedkar Road in Jammu, is home to the university's 118.78-acre main campus. It sits near the Tawi River at an altitude of 1,030 feet. The Old Campus occupies another 10.5 acres, 4 km away. Students in remote districts of the Jammu division are also served by seven offsite campuses: Udhampur, Reasi, Ramnagar, Poonch, Kishtwar, Kathua and Bhaderwah.

Students have access to the Dhanvantri Central Library, which holds one of J&K's largest academic library collections. The main campus provides separate hostels for boys and girls, a health centre, a gymnasium, and a sports complex with indoor and outdoor facilities. Other amenities include a cafeteria, canteens, Wi-Fi across academic blocks, a post office, a J&K Bank branch and a guest house. Departmental digital services receive support from the Computer Centre.

Separate academic blocks accommodate sciences, humanities, law, management and performing arts. Alongside its 36 teaching departments and 11 faculties, the university houses The Business School, the Centre for Disaster Management and the Directorate of Distance Education.

University of Jammu Scholarships

Government scholarship support is available through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). Students from SC, ST, OBC and minority communities can seek assistance under Post-Matric, Merit-cum-Means and other applicable schemes. National and J&K schemes assess eligibility using factors such as category, household income, academic performance and financial need.

The usual opening period for NSP applications is October to December each year. Students should consult the university's official scholarship section and the NSP portal for current deadlines and the documents they need.

University of Jammu, Central University of Jammu and University of Kashmir Compared

These three public universities draw applicants from Jammu and Kashmir. Their differences in funding, campus size, academic range and institutional structure can help students compare their options.

University of Jammu stands out for its range of programmes, affiliated college network and NAAC grade. A higher overall NIRF position and more developed science research infrastructure distinguish University of Kashmir. Central University of Jammu has a more recent establishment year, central government funding and a larger dedicated campus, with a narrower focus on liberal arts and sciences. Each institution has strengths across different comparison points.
