RTMNU Courses and Fees

RTMNU runs more than 246 courses at undergraduate, postgraduate, integrated, and doctoral levels. These courses are offered through 39 PGTDs and 601 affiliated colleges. The fee amount is different for government-aided colleges and private unaided affiliated colleges.

Laxminarayan Institute of Technology (LIT Nagpur) is the conducted college for B.Tech, while B.R. Ambedkar College of Law is the conducted college for LLB. Their fees follow the rules of DTE Maharashtra and BCI. Private unaided affiliated colleges under RTMNU charge more than the government-aided ranges shown above.

RTMNU Admission Process

RTMNU admission depends on the programme chosen by the student. Arts, science, and commerce UG courses use Class 12 merit, while professional and PG courses use state CET, national-level tests, or CUET PG where applicable.

The accepted entrance exams and selection routes are given below.

UG Programmes (BA, BCom, BSc, BCA, BBA)

For these UG courses, students need 10+2 from a recognised board with at least 45% aggregate. SC/ST candidates need 40%. Admission is based only on Class 12 marks, and no entrance exam is needed.

• Students fill the online application at the RTMNU admission portal, admission.nagpuruniversity.ac.in.
• The application fee is INR 800 for general category students and INR 600 for reserved category students.
• The college publishes the provisional merit list.
• The final merit list is released, and selected students report for counselling.
• Students complete document verification, pay the fee, and confirm the seat.

B.Tech (LIT Nagpur and Affiliated Engineering Colleges)

B.Tech applicants must pass 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics and score 50% marks. SC/ST candidates need 45%. RTMNU-affiliated engineering colleges accept MHT CET and JEE Main scores. Selection uses a 50:50 formula based on Class 12 PCM percentage and MHT CET score, followed by DTE Maharashtra’s Centralised Admission Process. For popular branches such as Computer Science at LIT Nagpur, the MHT CET cutoff is generally above 90 percentile.

MBA

MBA applicants need a bachelor’s degree with 50% aggregate. SC/ST candidates need 45%. RTMNU accepts MAH MBA CET, CAT, XAT, CMAT, and ATMA for MBA admission. Seats are allotted through State CET Cell CAP rounds. For RTMNU PGTD MBA seats, general category candidates usually need a MAH MBA CET score in the 80 to 90 percentile range. Shortlisted candidates attend group discussion and personal interview rounds at the department.

PG Programmes (MA, MCom, MSc)

For MA, MCom, and MSc, students must hold a bachelor’s degree in the relevant subject with 45 to 50% marks, depending on the department. Most departments use CUET PG scores for admission. Some PGTDs admit students through graduation merit when CUET is not required. RTMNU releases separate merit lists for university teaching departments and affiliated colleges.

LLB (3-Year and 5-Year)

The 5-year integrated LLB needs 10+2 with 50% marks, while SC/ST candidates need 45%. The 3-year LLB needs a bachelor’s degree with 50% marks. Both courses accept MH CET Law scores. Admission is held through BCI-compliant state counselling managed by the State CET Cell. B.R. Ambedkar College of Law is RTMNU’s conducted law college and offers both the 3-year and 5-year LLB programmes.

PhD Programmes

PhD applicants must have a postgraduate degree. They can qualify through the RTMNU PhD Entrance Test (PET), which is held every year in May. UGC NET/JRF, GATE, SET, or equivalent qualified candidates are exempt from PET. Final selection is based on PET performance and a personal interview at the concerned PGTD. Applications are invited once a year, usually from March to April, and hard copies are submitted to the PhD Cell.

RTMNU Placements

The Training and Placement Cell at RTMNU organises centralised placement drives for students of PGTDs and conducted colleges. In 2025, 808 students were placed out of 2,195 registered candidates, and 36 companies took part in campus hiring.

The programme-wise median packages for 2025 are shown below. The MBA batch had a median package of INR 3.8 LPA, with 30 students placed out of 61. Law UG recorded the highest median package at INR 6 LPA. Many RTMNU students choose UPSC, Maharashtra PSC, judiciary exams, other government competitive exams, or higher studies instead of campus placement.

TCS, HCL, Wipro, Cognizant, Capgemini, Accenture, Infosys, Reliance, Hexaware, and Bajaj Allianz recruit from RTMNU. Lupin Pharma is among the recruiters for pharmacy graduates. Most on-campus offers come from IT, BFSI, and pharmaceutical companies.

RTMNU Rankings

RTMNU reached the NIRF top 100 in the University category for the first time in 2025 with rank 96. Its Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences received 54th rank in Pharmacy by NIRF 2025 with a score of 50.79. This placed the department first in Vidarbha and seventh in Maharashtra for Pharmacy.

RTMNU has a NAAC ’A’ grade. It is also funded under DST-PURSE and ANRF-PAIR. The university is recognised by the UGC and is a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU).

RTMNU Scholarships

RTMNU offers its own merit scholarships and also supports students through government welfare schemes. State-funded scholarships are given through the MAHADBT portal to eligible SC, ST, OBC, VJNT, SBC, and EWS students. SC and ST students in government-aided colleges may get full tuition fee reimbursement under post-matric scholarship rules.

Students apply for MAHADBT scholarships online through the MAHADBT portal before the deadline announced for that academic year. Students should apply in the first term, because late applications may not be processed for the same academic year.

RTMNU Campus and Infrastructure

RTMNU has its main campus and administrative blocks spread over 327 acres across seven campuses in Nagpur city. The central library has 4,02,068 books, 871 e-books, and 9,155 e-journals through the UGC INFLIBNET consortium. It provides seating for 250 readers, has an Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC), and subscribes to 186 Indian and 11 foreign print journals.

The university has five hostels, including one international students’ hostel. Together, these hostels provide 215 seats. Separate blocks are available for male and female students. Facilities include study tables, reading rooms, TV halls, filtered water, and CCTV surveillance. The annual hostel fee is INR 90,000 per year.

Other facilities include a university health centre that gives free medical services to students and faculty, a hobby workshop, indoor and outdoor sports facilities, and a career counselling cell. RTMNU’s notable alumni include former Prime Minister P. V. Narasimha Rao, former Vice President Mohammad Hidayatullah, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.

RTMNU vs SPPU vs University of Mumbai

Students in Maharashtra often compare RTMNU with Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) and the University of Mumbai. All three are large state affiliating universities with similar course choices and government-aided fee levels. The final choice usually depends on location, NIRF position, and strength in a particular subject area.

RTMNU is ahead of the other two in Pharmacy based on NIRF ranking and is a better location choice for many students from Vidarbha. SPPU and the University of Mumbai have higher overall NIRF ranks and attract larger applicant pools from major cities. The three universities offer broadly similar government-aided fee structures for UG and PG programmes.
