AILET 2026 Reservation is administered by the National Law University, Delhi, which allocates seats for admission to both UG and PG programs based on the specified Reservation Categories. These categories include OBC, EWS, SC, ST, and PwD, with respective reservations of 22%, 10%, 15%, and 7.5%.

Candidates can indicate their respective category when filling out the AILET 2026 Application Form, which will be available alongside the official exam notification.

AILET 2026 Seats Reservation for SC & ST

  • Seats will be reserved for eligible candidates upon submission of a valid certificate issued by the relevant authority.
  • A total of 15% of seats are designated for Scheduled Castes, while 7.5% are earmarked for Scheduled Tribes.
  • In cases where Scheduled Caste seats remain vacant, these will be converted into Scheduled Tribe seats and will not be reallocated to any other reserved category.
  • In situations where there is an insufficient number of eligible candidates from the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in the respective categories, the vacant seats will be treated as open seats and offered to general category candidates based on their merit.

To qualify for reservation under these categories, students must possess a valid certificate issued by any of the following authorities: Deputy Commissioner, Additional Chief Presidency Magistrate, Presidency Magistrate, Revenue Officer not below the rank of Tehsildar, Collector, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Deputy Collector, 1st Class Stipendiary Magistrate, City Magistrate, Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Executive Magistrate, Taluk Magistrate, or Extra Assistant Commissioner.

AILET 2026 Reservation for OBC Category

  • The university reserves 22% of seats for OBCs (Non-Creamy Layer).
  • Eligibility for this category requires a valid OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) certificate issued by a competent authority under the Central List of OBCs or the Delhi State List of OBCs (Notified by the Government of NCT of Delhi).
  • The certificate for the non-creamy layer should be issued on or after April 1, 2023.
  • Recognized Competent Authorities for granting OBC certificates include District Magistrates, Additional District Magistrates, Deputy Commissioners, Collectors, and other specified officials.
  • The certificate should be issued by the competent authority for the district in which the candidate and/or their family ordinarily reside.

AILET 2026 Reservation for EWS (Economically Weaker Section)

  • 10% of seats are reserved for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS).
  • To avail EWS reservation, provide an authentic Income and Asset Certificate issued by a Competent Authority.
  • The Income and Asset Certificate must be issued by one of the following authorities:
    • Collector
    • Deputy Commissioner
    • Additional Deputy Commissioner
    • 1st Class Stipendiary Magistrate
    • Sub-Divisional Magistrate
    • Taluka Magistrate
    • Executive Magistrate
    • Extra Assistant Commissioner
    • District Magistrate
    • Additional District Magistrate
    • Presidency Magistrate
    • Additional Presidency Magistrate
    • Revenue Officer with a level higher than the Tehsildar
    • Sub-Divisional Officer for the district where the candidate or their family ordinarily reside.

AILET 2026 Reservation for Persons with Disability

  • 5% vertical reservation for Persons with Disabilities (PwD) in all categories.
  • The reservation is provided by NLU as a nationally approved institute under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016.
  • Seats in the General, OBC, SC, ST, and EWS categories are reserved for PwD candidates.

AILET 2026 Reservation for Kashmiri Migrants and Residents of Jammu and Kashmir

  • 2 extra seats are reserved for J & K residents.
  • Eligibility documentation is required during the AILET 2026 Application form.
  • Unfilled seats may be transferred to another category.
  • 1 supernumerary seat allowed for Kashmiri Pandits and Migrants.
  • Vacant seats may be transferred to another category.

AILET Merit List 2026

Admission to the B.A.LLB, LLM, and Ph.D. programs at NLU, Delhi solely based on merit. The candidate will be eligible for the next process based on the minimum marks that they obtain.

  • Candidates must obtain a minimum of 40% of the total marks (30% for SC/ST/PwD) to be admitted to the university.
  • If candidates fail to meet the minimal cut-off marks, seats may remain unfilled.
  • For applicants with the same percentage of marks in the law test, merit will be established based on a percentage of marks in the Intermediate level (10+2 System) / Higher Secondary School or its equivalent examination recognized by the University.
  • If the ranks remain the same, the marks from Class 10 will be taken into account. If there is still no change in rank, the marks from Class 10 will be taken into account. The larger percentage will be given preference.

Other important Instructions for AILET 2026 Seat Allotment

Given below are the key points of AILET Seat Allotment 2026:

  • Original caste/category certificates are required for reserved categories/classes during provisional admission.
  • No provisional admissions without a valid caste/category certificate from the competent authority.
  • The certificate must be in the name of the candidate, not parents/guardians/spouse/other family members.
  • Candidates must demonstrate eligibility for reservation under specific categories/subcategories.
  • Original certificates must be presented during provisional admission and document verification for SC/ST/OBC/EWS/KM/J&K resident categories/PwD sub-categories.
  • Seats reserved for SC, ST, OBC, EWS, and other restricted categories are transferred to the General Category if no appropriate candidates are found.
  • Unfilled reserved ST category seats are offered to the SC category during conversion, and vice versa.
  • Unfilled reserved category seats moved to the General Category only after previous allocations.
  • If no suitable PwD candidates are available, unfilled PwD seats may be considered for equivalent horizontal reservation categories designated by the university.

AILET Reservations 2026 FAQs

Ques. Is an OBC reservation available at NLU Delhi?

Ans. OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) seats are reserved at 22%. Candidates must have a valid OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) certificate issued by a competent authority to apply in this category.

Ques. Are there any AILET 2026 seats reserved for Delhi students?

Ans. No. The decision to offer 50% reservation to Delhi students has been revoked as a result of a Delhi High Court judgment.

Ques. What are the cut-off points for AILET 2026?

Ans. The AILET cut-off 2026 is the minimal grade necessary for admission to NLU Delhi for BA LLB and LLM programs. Based on the AILET cut-off from the prior year, the. The cut-off for AILET LLM 2026 is expected to be 60-70, 50-52, and 45-48 for general, OBC, and SC applicants, respectively.

Ques. Does every OBC receive a reservation?

Ans. Only candidates from the Non-Creamy Layer OBC receive reservations in both jobs and educational institutions. The Creamy Layer of OBC does not have the benefit of an OBC reservation.

Ques. Is it necessary for me to upload any Reservation category certificates while submitting my online application form?

Ans. While applying online for AILET 2026, no documents or certificates are required to be uploaded, except a BPL certificate (in the case of SC/ST). It shall be the candidate's sole duty to demonstrate his/her eligibility for reservation under any of the reserved categories/sub-categories. Candidates claiming reservation under the SC/ST/OBC/EWS/KM/J&K resident categories/PwD sub-categories must present an original certificate at the time of provisional admission and document verification.

Ques. Is 70 a good AILET score to get admission?

Ans. As you can see, General category candidates must score at least 70 out of 150 to be admitted to NLU Delhi. SC/ST applicants must score approximately 50 points, whereas PwD/KM/J&K candidates must score between 35 and 50 points.
