DTU Eligibility Criteria For PhD 2025

To be eligible for admission to the PhD program at DTU, candidates must meet the following criteria:-

  • Master's degree in relevant discipline or equivalent with a minimum 55% marks in aggregate or equivalent CGPA as determined by DTU.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology in a relevant discipline or equivalent with a minimum 75% marks in aggregate or equivalent CGPA and having proven research capability.
  • Master's degree in Sciences/Arts/Humanities/Psychology/Medicine and other behavioural Sciences and allied relevant disciplines or equivalent with minimum 55% marks in aggregate or equivalent CGPA as determined by DTU.
  • Master's degree in Computer Applications/Sciences or equivalent in any branch/discipline with a minimum 55% marks in aggregate or equivalent CGPA as determined by DTU.
  • Proven research capability is essential for candidates with a Bachelor's degree, and DTU will determine CGPA as per their norms.

DTU Admission Process For PhD

The step-by-step admission process is outlined below:-

  • Respective departments will shortlist applications possessing minimum educational qualifications for the entrance test and interview.
  • A 90-minute computer-based test comprising 60 multiple-choice questions, with 50% research methodology and 50% subject-specific questions, carrying 70% weightage.
  • UGC-NET/UGC-CSIR NET/DBT/ICMR/IARI-JRF full-time fellowship holders, GATE/CEED/NET-qualified students, foreign national students, and DTU faculty/industry professionals are exempt from the entrance test.
  • The departmental Research Committee (DRC) will conduct interviews and presentations, carrying 30% weightage.
  • The final merit list will be prepared by combining entrance test scores (70%) and interview/presentation scores (30%).
  • Candidates with 50% marks in the entrance test/interview are eligible for admission, with a 5% relaxation for SC/ST/OBC/differently-abled/EWS categories.

Documents Required For PhD Admission

Complete list of documents required for PhD admission:-

  • Printed copy of online registration application, all semester mark sheets/grade cards/provisional/degree certificates from the first degree onwards, and proof of qualifying degree with required percentage of marks or CGPA by January 31, 2025.
  • Caste Certificate for SC/ST/OBC-NCL candidates, OBC (NCL) Certificate issued after March 31, 2024, or accompanied by an additional certificate for non-creamy layer status, and EWS Income and Asset Certificate issued after June 16, 2024.
  • Authorised Doctor's Certificate with disability descriptions for Person with Disabled (PwD) candidates, NOC for part-time candidates, and Project Co-ordinator's certificate in the prescribed format.
  • Original UGC-JRF/NET/CSIR/DAE-JEST or other fellowship award letter, Date of Birth Proof, and Copy of Adhaar Card.
  • Two passport-sized recent photographs and a Copy of the Cancelled Cheque.
