IIIT Allahabad Important Admission Dates

The upcoming schedule covers entrance examinations and the institute's rolling Ph.D. admission process. Students seeking undergraduate or dual-degree seats use JEE Main, while GATE is the entrance route for M.Tech. CAT scores support MBA selection.

IIIT Allahabad Courses and Fees

At the B.Tech level, IIIT Allahabad concentrates on IT and ECE, including ITBI. Postgraduate study adds specialised technology, applied research and interdisciplinary subjects. The two 5-year dual-degree options combine engineering with either an M.Tech or an MBA, allowing students to follow one integrated programme.

Specialised M.Tech choices also include Human Machine Interaction and Immersive Technologies. Along with Quantum Technology, Bioinformatics, and Cyber Laws and Information Security, these cover subjects that most IITs and NITs do not offer as separate M.Tech options. Eligible M.Tech students who qualify through GATE can receive an AICTE stipend of INR 12,400 per month to help meet their study costs.

IIIT Allahabad Admission Process

Each programme has its own entrance and selection route. Undergraduate engineering seats are allotted through central counselling using JEE Main ranks. For B.Tech, IIIT Allahabad holds neither a separate entrance examination nor an interview.

B.Tech Eligibility and Application Steps

Applicants must meet the following conditions:

• Class 12 must include Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects, with Chemistry or Computer Science.
• The Class 12 aggregate must be at least 75%, or 65% for SC/ST applicants. Alternatively, students may qualify through the top 20 percentile of their respective board.
• A valid JEE Main rank from the current year or the immediately preceding year is needed.

1. Register on the JoSAA portal using the required entrance examination details.
2. Add IIIT Allahabad's IT, ECE and ITBI seats to the preference list in the desired order.
3. Lock the choices and take part in rank-based seat allotment.
4. Report to the institute after receiving a seat.
5. Use the CSAB Special Rounds for any seats left vacant after JoSAA counselling.

Across the branches, JoSAA 2026 Round 1 closing ranks fell between 4,140 and 7,585 in JEE Main. IT had the lowest closing rank, while ECE and ITBI admitted students over a wider rank range. B.Tech and dual-degree allotments for the 2026-27 session used JEE Main 2026 scores through JoSAA and CSAB.

M.Tech Selection

A relevant B.Tech or equivalent degree with at least 60% is required. Students apply with their GATE scores through CCMT, the Centralised Counselling for M.Tech. Specialisations outside the CCMT seat pool use a separate admission notice issued by IIITA. Eligible GATE-qualified students receive the AICTE monthly fellowship.

3. Complete the selection and admission formalities for the allotted specialisation.

MBA Selection

Graduates from any discipline can apply with a minimum aggregate of 55% and a valid CAT score. Shortlisted applicants attend a Group Discussion and Personal Interview, known as GDPI, on the IIITA campus. The programme connects management study with technology, and its coursework draws on the institute's IT research faculty.

1. Submit an MBA application with the qualifying degree and CAT score details.
2. Take part in score-based shortlisting.
3. Attend the campus GDPI if shortlisted.

Ph.D Selection

Research applicants normally take an entrance screening test before an interview with a research committee. A valid GATE or UGC-NET qualification may allow applicants in relevant disciplines to proceed directly to the interview. Selected scholars can receive support through sponsored fellowships or teaching assistantships.

1. Check the relevant discipline's eligibility conditions and submit the Ph.D application.
2. Take the research entrance test unless eligible for an exemption.
3. Attend the research committee interview.

IIIT Allahabad Placements

Recruiters placed 422 of the 431 registered students during the 2025 season, giving IIIT Allahabad a placement rate of 97.91 percent. Campus recruitment involved 195 companies. B.Tech offers reached INR 120 LPA, while the average stood at INR 33 LPA. LPA means lakhs per annum, or lakhs per year.

Company-specific offers included INR 76.25 LPA from Apple, INR 64 LPA from Oracle and INR 57 LPA from Confluent. Zomato and Uber each offered INR 56 LPA. Google, Amazon and Microsoft recruit regularly, making multiple annual offers for product engineering and software development engineer roles.

IIIT Allahabad has a strong placement record among newer Institutes of National Importance and among IIITs outside the IIIT Hyderabad tier. Its undergraduate focus directs graduating students towards IT roles. The cohort does not include Civil or other core engineering branches whose different recruitment outcomes can lower the combined average at colleges with a wider branch mix.

Recruiter participation also benefits from flight access between Prayagraj and the technology centres of Pune, Hyderabad and Bengaluru.

IIIT Allahabad Rankings

NIRF Engineering placed IIIT Allahabad in the 101-150 band in 2025. In 2024, it held rank 87 with a score of 45.84. Its 2024 position was ahead of several NITs and most private deemed universities in the engineering category. Small changes in scores can move institutions between positions and bands in the competitive NIRF field.

IIIT Allahabad is among the higher-ranked IIITs and consistently features among the top 3 or 4 IIITs in NIRF Engineering. The Ministry of Education's evaluation considers teaching, learning resources, research output, governance and placements.

As an Institute of National Importance, IIIT Allahabad does not take part in NAAC accreditation for affiliated and autonomous colleges. Its status comes from an Act of Parliament and carries a higher regulatory standing. Neither QS nor Times Higher Education lists it separately, as its publication volume falls below the minimum threshold for those global surveys.

IIIT Allahabad Campus and Infrastructure

Students live and study on a 100-acre campus at Jhalwa in Prayagraj. Hostel accommodation serves B.Tech and postgraduate students, with separate facilities for men and women and multiple hostel blocks. Staying in a hostel is compulsory during the first B.Tech year and optional in later years. The student affairs office manages hostel allotment for enrolled students.

Alongside dining facilities, the residential campus has a sports complex, gymnasium, medical centre and auditorium. Academic facilities include computing laboratories, a central library with digital subscriptions, and research laboratories for AI, bioinformatics, VLSI and signal processing. VLSI concerns the design of chips containing large numbers of electronic components.

High-speed internet supports campus study and research. Dedicated networking laboratories and GPU clusters, which provide computing power for AI and machine learning, form part of the computing infrastructure. Although Prayagraj is outside the tier-1 IT hubs, students and alumni describe its quieter setting as helpful for focused study and academic performance.

The Centre for Advanced Studies (CAS) brings together research projects with government bodies and industry. Active grants from DST, MEITY and DRDO fund opportunities for M.Tech and Ph.D students in AI, cybersecurity, bioinformatics and digital forensics.

IIIT Allahabad Scholarships

Financial assistance combines central government schemes, postgraduate fellowships and grants from the institute's welfare fund. SC/ST and OBC students can access category-based support, while eligible M.Tech students receive GATE-linked assistance. Students facing financial difficulty may seek need-based help from institute funds.

No separate merit scholarship examination is held for B.Tech entry; merit already forms the basis of JoSAA allotment. Under the central government scholarship scheme, eligible SC/ST B.Tech students receive full tuition reimbursement, bringing their effective tuition cost close to zero. For GATE-qualified M.Tech students, the AICTE fellowship provides support throughout the 2-year programme towards meeting its fees.

IIIT Allahabad, IIIT Gwalior and MNNIT Allahabad Compared

Students with JEE Main ranks between 4,000 and 15,000 often consider these three institutions. Each is centrally funded and located in North-Central India, so their applicant groups overlap. IT-focused students tend to consider IIIT Allahabad and IIIT Gwalior, while Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology Allahabad (MNNIT) also attracts applicants for Civil, Mechanical, Chemical and other engineering branches.

Among these options, IIIT Allahabad leads on the average B.Tech placement package and the depth of IT- and AI-focused M.Tech and Ph.D research. IIIT Gwalior and IIIT Allahabad suit students whose interests centre on IT and ECE; recruitment at both is concentrated in product companies and major IT service firms.

MNNIT provides a wider choice, including Civil, Chemical and Electrical Engineering. Its longer history also brings an established alumni network across the public and private sectors. Students interested in non-IT engineering or government jobs accessed through GATE may find MNNIT the stronger fit.
