Recent B.Tech additions include AI and Data Science, AI and Machine Learning, Robotics and Automation, Microelectronics and VLSI, and Energy Technology. Introduced to address emerging industry needs, these branches follow the same fees as the established engineering branches.

The integrated route awards B.Tech and M.Tech degrees over 5 years in CSE, ECE, Civil, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering. Completing both degrees this way saves 1 year compared with taking the two programmes separately.

NIT Kurukshetra Admission Process

Entry to B.Tech depends on JEE Main and centralised seat allocation; NIT Kurukshetra has no separate B.Tech entrance test. JEE and GATE form the main admission routes for its undergraduate engineering and M.Tech programmes, as at other NITs with Institute of National Importance status. The 2026-27 admission cycle has finished, and the academic session is underway.

The programme-specific examination routes and minimum qualifications are listed below.

ProgrammeAdmission RouteEligibility
B.TechJEE Main, followed by JoSAA or CSAB counselling10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics; 75% aggregate, or 65% for SC/ST

Integrated B.Tech + M.TechJEE Main, followed by JoSAA or CSAB10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics; 75% aggregate
M.TechGATE, followed by CCMT counsellingB.Tech in a relevant branch and a valid GATE score
MBACAT, MAT or CMAT, with the institute's merit processGraduation with at least 50%
MCANIMCET or CATBCA or B.Sc in Computer Science, Information Technology or Mathematics; minimum 50%
M.ScIIT JAM, followed by CCMN counsellingB.Sc in the relevant subject
Ph.D.Institute RET and interview, or NET or GATEPostgraduate qualification, M.Sc or B.Tech in the relevant subject

B.Tech and Integrated B.Tech + M.Tech

  1. Meet the school-level requirement: 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and at least 75% aggregate. The minimum is 65% for SC/ST/PwD applicants.
  2. Obtain a valid JEE Main score.
  3. Take part in counselling through the Joint Seat Allocation Authority, or JoSAA, for centralised seat allotment.
  4. For Haryana home-state candidates, a 15% supernumerary quota, meaning additional seats, applies in most branches through the Central Seat Allocation Board, or CSAB.

B.Arch

Applicants need a valid JEE Main Paper 2 score for B.Arch and/or a NATA score. The school qualification is 10+2 with PCM or PCB and at least 75% marks, including 50% in Mathematics. JoSAA allocates these seats alongside B.Tech seats.

M.Tech

Students use their GATE scores to participate in CCMT, the Centralised Counselling for M.Tech. Those who qualify through GATE receive an MHRD fellowship of INR 12,400 per month. Over the 2-year programme, this support covers a substantial share of the fees. Applicants without GATE may seek sponsored or self-financed seats when these are available.

MBA, MCA and M.Sc

For MBA selection, the institute accepts CAT, MAT and CMAT and uses its own merit process. MCA applicants enter through NIMCET, the NIT MCA Common Entrance Test conducted by NIT Bhopal for all NITs, or through CAT for direct MCA admission.

M.Sc applicants must hold a B.Sc in the relevant subject and achieve a competitive IIT JAM score. They then participate in CCMN, the Centralised Counselling for M.Sc/MCA at NITs and Centrally Funded Technical Institutions, or CFTIs.

Over the past few years, its NIRF Engineering positions have stayed within 75 to 90, giving it a stable middle position among the 31 NITs. Placement results in CSE and IT contribute to its NIRF Teaching, Learning and Resources and Graduate Outcomes scores.

NIT Kurukshetra Campus and Infrastructure

Department buildings, faculty housing, student residences and recreation areas share the institute's large green campus in the historic city of Kurukshetra, Haryana. Boys and girls have separate hostels. Accommodation, mess and related amenities cost INR 83,800 to INR 97,000 per year.

The central library provides access to digital journals. Engineering departments have research laboratories, with additional facilities for CAD/CAM, robotics and VLSI design. An innovation hub supports student startups. A health centre, swimming pool, and indoor and outdoor sports courts serve students on campus.

Computer Engineering and IT students can use specialised data science and AI laboratories equipped with GPUs, processors used for demanding computing tasks. These labs also support the newer B.Tech programmes in AI and Machine Learning and AI and Data Science.

A Board of Governors and Senate oversee the institute under the NIT Act, 2007. The Director heads academic and administrative work. Its Institute of National Importance status gives its degrees standing equivalent to IIT degrees for recruitment. NIT Kurukshetra also follows Model CSAB seat-allotment norms alongside the other NITs and CFTIs.
