What has changed at MNLU Mumbai?
The MNLU Mumbai brochure lists two separate horizontal reservations: 1% for transgender candidates and 1% for orphan candidates. These provisions are shown along with the university's other horizontal reservations for women, specially abled persons and wards of ex-servicemen or defence personnel.
Horizontal reservation works within the sanctioned intake. It does not mean that 1% seats will be added on top of the 100 B.A. LL.B. seats or 50 LL.M. seats. The final allocation will follow MNLU Mumbai's reservation rules and the documents accepted by the university.

The brochure says both intakes are subject to the reservation norms approved by the Maharashtra state authorities and the university's Executive Council. Each LL.M. specialisation can have up to 20 students, depending on merit, preference and available seats.

The 5% defence-related reservation has conditions in the brochure. It does not cover children of civilian staff who work or worked in the armed forces. Candidates should not select a category only because it appears in the list; the claim must match the university's document rules.
Who should check the CLAT form now?
If you are eligible for the transgender or orphan category and have already started a CLAT 2027 application, review the reservation section before paying. The CLAT instructions say the programme, category and BPL fields cannot be changed after the form is submitted and paid. They also say that updates will not be accepted after the closing date.
The Consortium's FAQ allows a candidate to apply before a reservation certificate is ready. The certificate still has to be produced at admission. A pending document is not permission to make an incorrect claim.
