Indian Institute of Technology Mandi has opened applications for PhD, M.Tech (Research), and Dual Degree (M.Tech + PhD) admissions for the 2025 academic year. Aspiring candidates can apply online through the IIT Mandi Admission Portal before April 30, 2025. Shortlisted candidates will be called for an online interview conducted by IIT Mandi.

Eligibility Criteria at IIT Mandi

PhD Admission Eligibility (Full-Time)

  • Master’s degree in Science/Engineering/Technology from a recognized institution.
  • Bachelor’s degree holders in Engineering/Technology from CFTIs with a minimum CGPA of 7.5 (on a 10-point scale).
  • Candidates from non-CFTIs with at least 7.5 CGPA require a valid GATE score.
  • Top 100 NIRF-ranked institute graduates (B.Tech/BE) with a CGPA of at least 7.5 can apply without GATE.
  • Himachal Pradesh Govt. Institute graduates with a CGPA of at least 7.5 can apply.

PhD Admission Eligibility (Part-Time)

  • Institute staff members, research scholars under QIP/External Registration, or those working on a part-time basis can apply.
  • Professionals employed in R&D environments within scientific institutions (including IIT Mandi) or industries.
  • Faculty members from engineering colleges/universities recognized by appropriate government agencies.
  • Same qualifications as Full-time candidates except for national entrance tests, candidates should have at least two years of work experience instead.

M.Tech (Research) Admission Eligibility

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology or Master’s in relevant Sciences with a valid GATE score.
  • CFTI graduates (CGPA 7.5+) can apply without GATE.
  • Top 100 NIRF-ranked institute graduates (CGPA 7.5+) can apply without GATE.
  • Himachal Pradesh Govt. Institute graduates (CGPA 7.5+) are eligible.
  • For MTech Part-time the above requirements remain the same, further, the candidate should have at least two years of work experience

Dual Degree (M.Tech + PhD) Admission Eligibility

  • B.Tech/BE/M.Sc. candidates with a valid GATE score.
  • CFTI graduates (CGPA 8.0+) are exempt from GATE requirements.

IIT Mandi Admission Details

  • Shortlisted candidates will be called for an online interview.
  • Selection is based on academic performance, research aptitude, and interview results.
  • Employed candidates seeking admission to M.Tech. (Research)/PhD must submit a “No Objection Certificate” from their current employer at the time of interview.
  • For each specialization and program, candidates should submit a separate application with the application fee.
  • Financial Assistance: Full-time PhD and M.Tech (Research) scholars may receive scholarships as per IIT Mandi/MoE rules.
