NALSAR Admission Dates 2027

CLAT 2027 is the main entrance examination for NALSAR's 2027-28 BA LLB intake. Online applications close on 31 October 2026, and the test is scheduled for 6 December 2026. Counselling is planned for December 2026 and January 2027.

Programme families at NALSAR use different admission routes. BA LLB seats are assigned through CLAT UG counselling, while the LLM, management and research programmes follow the selection routes listed below.

NALSAR Courses and Fees

Students can study law, management and research programmes at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels. BA LLB (Hons) is the university's main 5-year course. The amounts in the table are programme fees. Every student must also pay the separate hostel and mess charge of INR 1,07,000 per year.

For a General-category student, the combined cost of the 5-year BA LLB programme and compulsory hostel and mess services is INR 18,25,000. The SC/ST programme fee for the first year is INR 2,66,000, compared with INR 2,72,000 for the General category. Across five years, the SC/ST programme fee totals INR 12,84,000.

NALSAR Admission Process

NALSAR selects students through entrance scores and merit lists. National Law Universities do not provide a management quota or an NRI quota, and seats are not offered through direct admission outside the applicable merit process.

BA LLB (Hons) Admission

The CLAT Consortium's central counselling process fills all 132 BA LLB seats. Telangana domicile candidates receive a 15% state quota within this intake.

1. Check eligibility: Applicants must have passed Class 12 in any stream with at least 45% aggregate. The minimum is 40% for SC, ST and PwD candidates. Applicants must be below 20 years of age on 1 July of the admission year, with an age limit of 22 years for SC, ST and PwD candidates.
2. Take CLAT: Students must register for and appear in the undergraduate Common Law Admission Test.
3. Join counselling: Qualified applicants complete online counselling and choice-filling through the CLAT Consortium.
4. Receive a seat: The Consortium assigns seats according to the CLAT score, merit position and submitted choices.
5. Confirm admission: A candidate allotted NALSAR must complete the university's confirmation requirements.

The 132-seat distribution is General 66, SC 19, ST 8, OBC 26 and EWS 13. In Round 1 of the 2025 counselling process, the General-category All India Quota closing rank was 155. The Telangana quota closed at rank 615. A rank within the top 200 is usually targeted by applicants seeking a first-round NALSAR seat.

LLM Admission

NALSAR conducts an entrance test for LLM selection and then holds merit-based counselling. Applicants need an LLB or BA LLB degree with at least 55% aggregate. The requirement is 50% for SC and ST applicants. The university distributes 66 seats among 8 specialisations. Applicants must follow nalsar.ac.in for the annual notification and examination schedule.

MBA, PhD and Other Programme Admissions

NALSAR uses its own selection process for the MBA and integrated BBA+MBA programmes. PhD applicants must clear the NALSAR Research Entrance Test (RET) and attend an interview before the doctoral committee. Admission to the integrated LLM+PhD takes place with the LLM admission cycle. Competitive entrance examinations are not required for the short certificate and diploma courses.

NALSAR Placements

NALSAR has one of the strongest placement records among National Law Universities outside NLSIU Bangalore. For the 2025 batch, the highest salary reached INR 65 LPA, while the average was INR 17 to 18 LPA. Between 98% and 100% of eligible students were placed. Many offers were Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs) received before the regular recruitment season.

Out of 135 graduating students in 2025, 115 secured placements. More than 50 recruiters joined the campus process, and PPOs accounted for over 60% of placements. Corporate law produced the largest share of offers. Regular tier-1 law firm recruiters included Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, AZB and Partners, and Khaitan and Co.

Graduates also move into the judiciary through Telangana or central judicial service examinations, UPSC civil services, academic work and corporate in-house legal teams. Some continue with an LLM at leading universities in the UK, the US or continental Europe. NALSAR's alumni presence in the judiciary and corporate bar supports students pursuing these different career paths.

NALSAR Rankings

NALSAR holds the 3rd position in India in the NIRF 2025 Law ranking and has a score of 79.50. It continues to appear in the national top three with NLSIU Bangalore and NLU Delhi. As a National Law University, NALSAR is recognised by the BCI and listed by the UGC.

NALSAR Scholarships

Financial assistance at NALSAR includes concessions for SC/ST students and support for students from economically weaker backgrounds. Eligible students can also use scholarship schemes run by the central and state governments.

Central government scholarship applications are filed through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). Students seeking Telangana state scholarships must use the state's scholarship portal. Each academic year, NALSAR's admissions office publishes separate notices for financial aid managed by the university.

NALSAR Campus and Infrastructure

NALSAR's purpose-built campus is at Justice City, Shamirpet, Hyderabad, 27 km from the city centre. It is a fully residential law school, and living in a campus hostel is compulsory for every enrolled student. Hostel and mess services cost INR 1,07,000 per year. The residential setting supports academic work and the university's moot court culture.

Facilities include a central library with one of South India's largest collections of law books and journals, dedicated moot court halls, a computer centre, sports facilities and student activity spaces. NALSAR regularly sends teams to national and international moot court contests. Its established moot programme has recorded strong results at the Jessup and other major competitions.

NALSAR vs NLSIU Bangalore vs NUJS Kolkata

Students aiming for a leading National Law University often compare NALSAR Hyderabad with NLSIU Bangalore and NUJS Kolkata. All three use CLAT for admission. At the All India Quota level, NLSIU Bangalore generally has the tightest cutoff, followed by NALSAR and then NUJS Kolkata.

NLSIU Bangalore, India's first NLU, is usually the leading preference for an All India Quota rank of 75 or better. NALSAR commonly becomes the next choice for students ranked from 76 to 200. It has a larger seat intake and similarly strong recruitment by tier-1 corporate law firms. NUJS Kolkata follows, while offering a higher quota to West Bengal domicile applicants. Each of the three universities is residential, has comparable fees and attracts the same leading group of law firm recruiters.
