IIM Shillong Admission Dates 2027

IIM Shillong PGPM 2027-29 admission is linked to CAT 2026. Registration is active and will close on September 15, 2026. The CAT 2026 exam date is November 29, 2026. IPM 2026 admission is also moving ahead through the centralised JIPMAT counselling process.

The programme-wise exam route and present admission status are given below.

IIM Shillong Courses and Fees

IIM Shillong runs six main programme groups in management. These include the full-time MBA, integrated BBA-MBA, executive programmes, doctoral study, and management development courses. PGPM is the main programme, with 382 students in the batch and a total fee of INR 26,18,000.

PGPM students can choose from Finance, Marketing, Operations, Human Resources, Strategy, IT and Systems, and Analytics. In the IPM, students study BBA-level subjects in Years 1 to 3 and MBA-level subjects in Years 4 and 5, earning both credentials from IIM Shillong over five years.

IIM Shillong Admission Process

IIM Shillong selects PGPM students through two merit-based stages. The first stage is used to call students for the Personal Interview. The second stage prepares the final merit list for admission offers. PGPM and IPM do not have management quota or NRI quota seats. Reservation follows Government of India rules: OT 67.5%, SC 15%, EWS 10%, and ST 7.5%.

PGPM Admission Process

For PGPM, students need a bachelor’s degree in any stream with at least 50% marks. SC, ST, and DA candidates need 45%. They must also have a valid CAT score and meet the required sectional cutoffs.

• Minimum CAT cutoff (General and EWS): 75 percentile in each section, VARC, DILR, and QA
• Minimum CAT cutoff (SC): 60 percentile in each section
• Minimum CAT cutoff (ST and DA): 50 percentile in each section

In Phase 1, the shortlist score gives 65% weight to CAT overall percentile and 35% weight to the Normalised Application Rating Score. Work experience of 18 to 23 months gets the highest Application Rating Score of 14 points. Freshers and applicants with 42 or more months of work experience get 0 for this part. IIM Shillong also shortlists students according to the share of each academic discipline in CAT, so one stream does not dominate the intake.

The final Phase 2 score uses CAT 40%, PI 40%, Application Rating Score 10%, and Gender Score 10%. Female candidates get a 10-point gender score. To qualify, students must score at least 30% in PI for GEN and EWS, 25% for SC, and 20% for ST and DA. In recent cycles, the actual PGPM call cutoff for General category students has usually been much higher than the sectional minimum, in the 96 to 99 overall percentile range.

IPM Admission Process

The 5-year IPM is for students who appeared in Class 12 in 2025 or 2026. General and EWS students need at least 60% aggregate in Class 12. SC, ST, and DA students need 55%. Admission is based on JIPMAT, a joint entrance test conducted by NTA for three IIMs, including IIM Shillong. The test checks Quantitative Aptitude, Data Interpretation, and Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension. Seat allotment is done through centralised counselling.

PGPEX Admission Process

PGPEX is meant for working professionals. Applicants need a bachelor’s degree with at least 50% marks and a valid GMAT or GRE score. The minimum GMAT score is 640 on the Focus Edition or 690 on the 10th Edition. Work experience and the Personal Interview play an important role in selection. IIM Shillong Placements

IIM Shillong completed PGPM placements for the 2023-25 batch with a highest CTC of INR 71.5 LPA and an average CTC of INR 27.03 LPA. The batch had 382 students. More than 300 prime recruiters took part, including 54 first-time recruiters.

Consulting and Strategy was the largest hiring area with 28% of all offers. IT and ITES recorded the highest domain CTC of INR 71.5 LPA. Sales and Marketing made up 21% of offers and had a domain-highest CTC of INR 43 LPA. The rest of the offers came from Finance, Operations, and General Management.

The institute’s AACSB, EQUIS, and AMBA accreditations help it connect with global and multinational recruiters. Companies visit the campus from cities such as Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, and Hyderabad. Its Shillong location does not limit recruitment, as most companies hire on campus during the common placement season.

IIM Shillong Rankings

IIM Shillong is listed in key national ranking systems. In NIRF 2025, it ranked 38th in Management with a score of 57.7, while its NIRF 2024 rank was 24th. India Today placed it 10th out of 270 MBA institutes in 2026. In NIRF 2025, Graduation Outcomes was its strongest parameter and crossed a score of 95.

IIM Shillong takes part in NIRF under the Management category. Its triple accreditation from AACSB, EQUIS, and AMBA shows international recognition for its curriculum, faculty qualifications, and research output.

IIM Shillong Scholarships

IIM Shillong offers need-based fee waivers and helps eligible PGPM students access government scholarship schemes. Since it is an Institute of National Importance, admitted students can also get education loans from banks at subsidised rates.

IIM Shillong Campus and Infrastructure

IIM Shillong has its campus at Umsawli in the East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya, near Shillong. The campus stands at a higher elevation and overlooks hills and forest cover, which is why it is popularly known as a "campus in the clouds".

The campus is fully residential. Hostel stay is included in the combined PGPM fee of INR 26,18,000, along with tuition and mess charges. Students use seminar halls, a management library, computing labs, activity spaces, sports facilities, and a medical centre. Its Northeast India location gives the campus a different setting from IIMs in large metro cities.

IIM Shillong also runs research centres connected to the region, including the Centre for Management in Agriculture (CMA) and a Centre for Sustainability and Social Responsibility. These centres work with government bodies and industries linked to Northeast India. Student clubs cover finance, marketing, consulting, social impact, and cultural activities.

IIM Shillong vs IIM Raipur vs IIM Rohtak

Students with an IIM Shillong offer often compare it with second-generation government IIMs such as IIM Raipur and IIM Rohtak. All three use CAT for admission, receive government funding, and have similar programme formats. They differ in total fee, average salary, accreditation, and location.

IIM Shillong has the highest average CTC among the three and also holds triple international accreditation. IIM Raipur and IIM Rohtak have lower total fees, with IIM Raipur being the least expensive option in this comparison. IIM Rohtak is closer to Delhi-NCR companies, which can help for internships and Sales and Marketing roles. The best choice depends on a student’s fee budget, career goal, and location preference.
