Berhampur University Admission Dates 2026

Most postgraduate seats for 2026-27 are filled through the Common PG Entrance Test (CPET) managed under SAMS Odisha. OJEE, the Odisha Joint Entrance Examination, is the admission route for MBA. The remaining CPET process concerns final rounds and stray vacancies.

For CPET, applicants from the General, EWS and SEBC categories need at least 45% in graduation. The minimum is 40% for SC, ST and PwD applicants. Programme-specific CPET papers cover admission to MA, M.Sc, MCom, LLM, M.Lib, M.Phil and MTTM courses. B.Ed admission is in its final stage, while the annual Ph.D admission process follows separate university notifications.

Berhampur University Courses and Fees

More than 50 postgraduate and research programmes are taught on the main campus in the humanities, sciences, commerce, law and professional fields. The affiliated colleges provide undergraduate BA, B.Sc and BCom courses within the university's jurisdiction.

The university's location on the southern Odisha coast near the Bay of Bengal supports its Marine Science and Oceanography programmes. M.Sc Geophysics costs INR 34,824, and Electronic Science is another M.Sc subject available at Berhampur University. These subjects are not commonly offered by Odisha's state public universities.

Berhampur University Admission Process

Admission depends on the programme. CPET is used for most postgraduate courses, OJEE applies to MBA and may apply to MCA, and separate entrance or merit rules cover the remaining professional and research programmes.

MA / M.Sc / MCom / LLM / M.Lib Admission

SAMS Odisha centrally manages the CPET process for these postgraduate programmes. Applicants take the paper for their chosen subject, after which online counselling and merit-based seat allotment take place.

1. Meet the subject requirement and secure at least 45% in graduation. SC, ST and PwD applicants need 40%.
2. Register for CPET and take the subject-specific entrance examination.
3. Check the result and enter course and college choices through the SAMS Odisha portal.
4. Accept the merit-based allotment and pay the required fee.
5. Report in person to complete admission.

MBA and MCA Admission

The OJEE Board conducts the entrance examination used for MBA admission. Applicants must have a bachelor's degree in any field with at least 50% and a valid OJEE score. MCA applicants need 50% in graduation, Mathematics as a subject, and a valid OJEE or CPET score. MCA may use OJEE when the notification for that admission year specifies it.

M.Pharm and M.Tech Admission

Applicants to M.Pharm need a relevant undergraduate degree with at least 55%. Selection considers GPAT or the university entrance examination. M.Tech in Computer Science also requires a related undergraduate qualification with at least 55%, with selection based on GATE and university merit.

B.Ed Admission

B.Ed applicants must hold a graduation degree with at least 50% and qualify through the Odisha B.Ed Entrance Test.

Ph.D Admission

Berhampur University conducts an annual entrance test for doctoral admission. A postgraduate degree with at least 55% is required. Applicants who have qualified UGC-NET or JRF may receive fee concessions under UGC rules. Ph.D study is offered in 25-plus disciplines.

Berhampur University Rankings

NIRF placed Berhampur University in two ranking bands for 2025. It entered the 101-150 band in the University category and the 51-100 band for State Public Universities.

The university also holds NAAC Grade A accreditation, revalidated in August 2025.

Berhampur University Scholarships

Berhampur University students may apply for scholarship programmes offered by the Odisha government and the central government. Eligibility and financial support differ across schemes.

Science students may also seek the Inspire Scholarship from DST for undergraduate research and postgraduate fellowships. The Odisha scholarship portal processes applications for state post-matric schemes each year.

Berhampur University Campus and Infrastructure

The university's 250-acre Bhanja Vihar campus is in Berhampur, within southern Odisha's Ganjam district. It contains the administrative building, 24 postgraduate teaching departments, a central library, research laboratories and sports facilities.

Its coastal setting near the Bay of Bengal supports work in marine-related subjects. The Marine Science and Oceanography departments have access to a location close to the coast and the Chilika Lake ecosystem. Biotechnology and Environmental Science have separate research facilities.

Accommodation is provided through separate boys' and girls' hostels. Both have annual charges ranging from INR 10,650 to INR 11,250. Other facilities on the campus include a guest house, health centre and bank branches.

Berhampur University vs Sambalpur University vs Ravenshaw University

Berhampur University, Sambalpur University and Ravenshaw University are three state public universities in Odisha outside Utkal University. Each was placed in the 51-100 band of the NIRF 2025 State Public Universities category, allowing postgraduate applicants to compare them on programmes, location and institutional background.

Berhampur University provides coastal science options in Marine Science, Oceanography and environmental subjects. Sambalpur University has academic strengths in Tribal Studies and natural-resource management. Ravenshaw University offers the heritage of a college founded in 1868 and is located in Cuttack, closer to Odisha's capital, Bhubaneswar.
