IIM Ranchi Admission Dates 2027

IIM Ranchi MBA admission for the 2027-29 batch will be based on CAT 2026. The institute follows the Joint Admission Process (JAP) with IIM Raipur, IIM Trichy, and IIM Kashipur, so one CAT application can be used for consideration at all four IIMs.

For MBA, MBA-HR, and MBA-BA, the accepted exam is CAT through JAP. IPM admission is through IPMAT. EMBA accepts CAT or GMAT, while PhD (Executive) accepts CAT, GATE, or UGC NET.

IIM Ranchi Courses and Fees

IIM Ranchi has six main programme groups in management education. These include full-time MBA courses, the 5-year integrated BBA-MBA route, executive education, and doctoral study. MBA, MBA-HR, and MBA-BA have the same 2-year fee of INR 20,90,100.

The MBA-HR course includes areas such as Talent Management, Labour Laws, and Organisational Behaviour. MBA-BA covers data analytics, machine learning applications, and business intelligence. Both programmes run for 2 years and follow the same CAT-based admission route as the general MBA.

IIM Ranchi Admission Process

IIM Ranchi selects MBA students in two stages. First, candidates are shortlisted for the Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI). After that, the final merit list is prepared. MBA, MBA-HR, and MBA-BA use CAT scores through JAP with IIM Raipur, IIM Trichy, and IIM Kashipur.

MBA Admission Process

For all MBA streams, students must have a graduation degree in any subject with at least 50% marks. The minimum is 45% for SC, ST, and PwD candidates. Final-year graduation students can also apply if they complete the degree before joining.

• Sectional minimum (all categories): 75 percentile in VARC, DILR, and QA for General
• EWS: 89 percentile overall
• OBC-NCL: 88.5 percentile overall
• SC: 75 percentile overall
• ST: 44 percentile overall

Candidates with 25 to 36 months of work experience get the highest profile score. Freshers can apply and make up a large part of each batch. Female and transgender candidates get a 5-point bonus in the final merit score. IIM Ranchi applies Government of India reservation rules for all three MBA streams.

The final score combines CAT performance, Class 10 marks, Class 12 marks, graduation marks, work experience, gender diversity, and WAT-PI performance. Shortlisted students attend WAT and PI at the IIM Ranchi campus.

IPM Admission Process

The 5-year IPM is meant for students after Class 12. Admission is based on IPMAT, the entrance test used for IIM Ranchi's integrated programme. IPMAT checks Quantitative Ability and Verbal Ability. The next IPMAT is expected in May 2027, and applications are expected in February 2027. The total IPM fee is INR 39,60,250 for five years.

EMBA and PhD Admission

EMBA is designed for working professionals. PhD (Executive) is for candidates with industry experience and a valid CAT, GATE, or UGC NET score. The PhD application cycle opens every year in January. Students should contact the IIM Ranchi admissions office for the current cycle schedule.

IIM Ranchi Placements

IIM Ranchi completed 2025 MBA placements with a highest CTC of INR 50.39 LPA. The average CTC was INR 19.29 LPA, higher than INR 18.37 LPA in 2024. The placement drive included all 220 opted-in students from MBA, MBA-HR, and MBA-BA, and the institute recorded 100% placement.

The 2025 season had 150 recruiters and 250 offers. It also included 19 pre-placement offers, called PPOs, with an average package of INR 20.85 LPA. Consulting made up 35% of selections. BFSI and Fintech together accounted for 37% of MBA General offers. MBA-HR recorded a highest CTC of INR 35.30 LPA, while MBA-BA recorded a highest CTC of INR 27.94 LPA.

For MBA-HR roles, IIM Ranchi attracts firms from FMCG, consulting, and banking. MBA-BA students are hired by analytics and technology companies. Consulting and IT services firms recruit across all three MBA streams.

IIM Ranchi Rankings

IIM Ranchi is placed 18th in NIRF 2025 Management. In NIRF 2024, it was ranked 17th. The institute continues to appear among the top 20 management institutes in major national ranking lists. Outlook 2025 ranks it 7th among public B-schools in India.

The institute takes part in NIRF under the Management category. It does not have AACSB or EQUIS accreditation at present. Its NIRF score is strongly supported by Graduation Outcomes, which reflects steady MBA placement performance across all three streams.

IIM Ranchi Scholarships

IIM Ranchi provides merit-cum-means scholarships to a fixed number of students every year. Students admitted to the institute can also use the PM-Vidyalaxmi scheme for collateral-free education loans through partner banks.

IIM Ranchi Campus and Infrastructure

IIM Ranchi is based in Ranchi, Jharkhand. At present, it functions from a temporary campus, while the permanent campus is under development. Ranchi is part of the eastern industrial belt, which places the institute close to steel, mining, and public sector enterprises in the region.

The campus is built for residential learning. MBA students get hostel accommodation on campus. Facilities include academic blocks, a management library, case-study seminar rooms, computing labs, and a sports complex. Student life at IIM Ranchi includes HR-focused clubs, analytics groups, a cultural committee, and an entrepreneurship cell linked to its three MBA specialisations.

IIM Ranchi vs IIM Shillong vs IIM Raipur

Many MBA aspirants compare IIM Ranchi with IIM Shillong and IIM Raipur because all three are government IIMs and use CAT-based admission. Their main differences are seen in fees, placements, rankings, location, and course options.

Among these three institutes, IIM Ranchi has the best NIRF 2025 Management rank and is the only one with MBA-HR. IIM Shillong reports the highest average CTC and has triple international accreditation. IIM Raipur has the lowest total fee. Students who want a focused HR management course may find IIM Ranchi's MBA-HR more suitable because the other two institutes do not offer an equivalent programme.
