JD Birla Institute Admission Process

UG Admission at JDBI

JDBI selects students for every undergraduate programme through merit in West Bengal HS or CBSE Class XII. Applicants do not have to take a separate entrance examination.

  • Eligibility: Applicants must complete 10+2 through the WBCHSE or CBSE board with at least 60% aggregate marks.
  • Commerce programmes: BBA and B.Com are open to students from every stream, although a Commerce background at the HS level is preferred.
  • Science programmes: B.Sc Hons applicants need a science or relevant academic background. PCB is compulsory for Food and Nutrition.
  • Application and selection: Students submit the online form through the JDBI admission portal. The institute then publishes a merit list and verifies the selected applicants’ documents.

In earlier admission cycles, the first BBA merit list generally required Class XII marks within the 80 to 88% range. Limited seat availability also results in high merit cutoffs for B.Sc Applied Psychology and Interior Design.

PG Admission at JDBI

Jadavpur University rules govern admission to M.Com and M.Sc courses. Selection is made from the marks earned in the relevant undergraduate degree.

  • M.Com eligibility: A recognised university must have awarded the applicant a B.Com (Hons) degree with at least 50% marks.
  • M.Sc eligibility: Applicants need at least 50% marks in a relevant B.Sc degree in Food Science, Textile, Human Development or Psychology.
  • Selection process: The institute prepares a merit-based shortlist before completing document verification.

Graduates of Food Science, Nutrition or Home Science may apply for the PG Diploma in Dietetics and Applied Nutrition. The PG Diploma in Counselling Psychology accepts applicants holding a degree in Psychology or Social Work.

JD Birla Institute Campus and Infrastructure

The institute occupies a compact city campus at 11 Lower Rawdon Street in Bhowanipore, South Kolkata. Bus routes and the Bhowanipore metro station connect the location with central Kolkata. Because the campus stands in a residential and commercial part of the city, students are also close to corporate offices, retailers and design studios used for internships and practical training.

Academic facilities include Food Science and Textile laboratories, studios for Fashion and Interior Design, an Applied Psychology behavioural science lab, seminar halls and a library with digital resources. JDBI does not provide a hostel on campus. Students generally commute or arrange rented accommodation in nearby Bhowanipore and Tollygunge.
