TMI Admission Dates 2027

Admissions for TMI programmes beginning in August 2026 are over. For the next batch, the process is expected to start with IMU CET 2027 registration, followed by TMISAT 2027 for shortlisted applicants. The August 2027 batch is expected to begin classes in August 2027.

TMI Courses and Fees

TMI runs maritime programmes for students aiming for merchant navy careers. Its main undergraduate courses are B.Tech Marine Engineering and B.Sc Nautical Science. The programmes follow STCW Convention standards used for international seafarer certification.

After B.Tech Marine Engineering, graduates can receive a Class IV Engine COC, or Certificate of Competency, once they complete sea service and STCW endorsements. This makes them eligible to work as Junior Engineers on international ships. B.Sc Nautical Science graduates move towards Watchkeeping Mate certification, also called Class II Deck COC, after completing the required sea time.

TMI Admission Process

Admission at TMI depends on the programme. For the main UG maritime courses, students need qualifying marks, entrance exam performance, interview performance, and medical fitness as per DGS rules.

B.Tech Marine Engineering and B.Sc Nautical Science

B.Tech Marine Engineering and B.Sc Nautical Science use a multi-step admission route linked to IMU and DGS requirements.

• Eligibility: Applicants must have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics in 10+2. They need at least 60% aggregate in PCM and at least 50% in English. Candidates must be unmarried at admission.
• Age: For the August 2026 intake, male candidates must be born on or after August 1, 2005. Female candidates get a 2-year relaxation and must be born on or after August 1, 2003.
• Entrance: A valid IMU CET rank is required first. Shortlisted students then appear for TMISAT, the Tolani Maritime Institute Selection Aptitude Test, in July.
• Selection stages: The process covers PCM score shortlisting, IMU CET rank, TMISAT, Personal Interview, and medical examination as per DGS norms.
• Medical fitness: Students must meet DGS medical standards, which are treated as ENG1 equivalent norms. Colour blindness and some vision conditions lead to disqualification.

DNS Programme and ETO Course

The Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS) admits students through the IMU CET route. For the ETO, or Marine Electro Technical Officer Course, candidates with 10+2 PCM or a diploma in Electrical or Electronics Engineering can apply directly to TMI.

BBA Maritime Management

The BBA Maritime Management programme is non-residential. Admission is based on 10+2 merit, with at least 50% aggregate in any stream, and applications are sent directly to the TMI Lucknow office.

TMI Placements and Career Outcomes

TMI's official placement record for the 2024 graduating batch shows 100% placement of eligible graduates from B.Tech Marine Engineering, B.Sc Nautical Science, and the ETO Course. Through the placement cell, graduating cadets connect with international shipping principals for sponsored sea service training.

Recruiting companies include Andromeda Shipping, ASM Maritime, Atlas Crew Management, Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement, Eastern Pacific Shipping, and Mitsui OSK Lines. These companies operate across tanker, bulk carrier, and container shipping segments.

TMI Scholarships

TMI-specific scholarship details are limited on the official website. Students in IMU-affiliated programmes at TMI may be considered for support offered by the Indian Maritime University and the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways. Some shipping companies also provide cadetship sponsorship, where part of the training bond cost is covered in return for a sea service commitment after graduation.

TMI Campus and Infrastructure

TMI's Induri campus at Talegaon Dabhade is a fully residential maritime training campus. It has three student hostels, and each hostel has more than 250 rooms, Wi-Fi, a reading room, a television lounge, and an activity area. Every hostel also has its own 250-seat dining hall. Hostels 2 and 3 face a 200-metre synthetic athletics track.

The academic facilities include nautical and engineering simulators, a full-scale ship engine workshop, a navigation simulator, marine electrical labs, and lifesaving appliance training areas that follow IMO STCW requirements. Senior officers and visiting faculty stay in the Executive Hostel Block. Cadets are required to live on campus during the training period, as the campus works as a closed residential community.

TMI vs T.S. Chanakya vs MERI Kolkata

Students planning a merchant navy career often compare TMI with T.S. Chanakya in Navi Mumbai and the Marine Engineering and Research Institute, MERI Kolkata. T.S. Chanakya and MERI Kolkata are government-managed IMU-affiliated institutes and draw applicants from the same pre-sea training pool.

T.S. Chanakya and MERI Kolkata have much lower fees because they are publicly funded. TMI, as a private institute, offers strong campus infrastructure, ClassNK A1 quality rating, MLIT Japan recognition, the Glasgow/Strathclyde M.Sc route, and a published 100% eligible placement rate.
