VIT Mumbai Courses and Fees

Students can choose from five BE branches, three ME specialisations, an MMS programme and a doctoral programme at VIT Mumbai. The following table gives the duration, entry requirements and total fees from the 2026 academic year.

Each of the five BE branches costs INR 8,12,000 in total for four years. Placement activity shows particularly high demand for Computer Engineering and Information Technology. At the undergraduate level, Biomedical Engineering is the only option that accepts students from the PCB stream.

VIT Mumbai Admission Process

Admission routes differ by programme. BE, DSE, MMS and ME applicants take part in the relevant Maharashtra counselling process, while some BE and MMS seats are filled directly through the institute quota.

BE Admission

VIT Mumbai does not conduct a separate entrance examination for BE admission. Selection is based on an MHT-CET PCM or JEE Main score through Maharashtra CAP or the institute quota.

• Complete Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. General-category applicants need at least 45%, while reserved-category applicants need 40%.
• Obtain a valid MHT-CET PCM or JEE Main score.
• Apply for the 80% of seats allotted through CET Cell Maharashtra CAP rounds.
• Students may also seek the remaining 20% of merit-based seats through the VIT Institute Quota using an MHT-CET or JEE Main score.

Computer Engineering and Information Technology generally fill sooner in the counselling rounds because demand for these branches is higher.

BE Lateral Entry (DSE)

Engineering diploma holders and B.Sc graduates may enter the second year through DTE Maharashtra's DSE-CAP. Applicants need at least 45% in the qualifying diploma. Lateral entry is offered in Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Electronics and Telecom Engineering, and Biomedical Engineering.

MMS Admission

MMS applicants are selected through MAH-MBA/MMS-CET and CET Cell Maharashtra CAP counselling. VIT Mumbai also admits students independently to its ACAP institute-quota seats. A graduation degree in any subject with at least 50% is required, with the threshold reduced to 45% for reserved categories. The programme has 120 seats. ME Admission

For ME admission, students must have a valid MAH-ME-CET or GATE score and join the centralised postgraduate engineering counselling conducted by DTE Maharashtra. A relevant BE or B.Tech degree with at least 50% is required, or 45% for reserved categories. The institute offers ME in Computer Engineering, Electronics and Telecom Engineering, and Information Technology.

VIT Mumbai Placements

VIT Mumbai arranges campus recruitment for BE and MMS students. In the 2024-25 BE batch, 278 of 601 students secured placements. The batch recorded a median salary of INR 4.5 LPA and a top offer of INR 37.5 LPA.

Most placed students come from the Computer Engineering and Information Technology branches. The institute's alumni links and Wadala location support opportunities with product businesses, banking-technology companies and mid-sized IT service firms in Mumbai. Biomedical Engineering students can also seek roles with medical-device and healthcare companies in the city.

VIT Mumbai Scholarships

Category and household income determine eligibility for Maharashtra and central government scholarship schemes at VIT Mumbai. The institute does not list any additional college-funded scholarships.

Students who meet the conditions must apply through the Maharashtra State Scholarship Portal or National Scholarship Portal before the yearly deadline. These benefits require a separate application every year and are not part of the college admission procedure.

VIT Mumbai Campus and Infrastructure

VIT Mumbai operates from Wadala, Mumbai, with road and suburban rail connections. Wadala Road and Kings Circle stations on the Harbour Line provide access to the campus. Students can commute to employment centres such as Bandra-Kurla Complex, Andheri and the Thane IT corridors for internships and placements.

Separate academic blocks serve the engineering and management programmes. Facilities include computer laboratories, electronics and communication laboratories, a biomedical engineering laboratory, and a library with technical journals and digital databases. VIT Mumbai does not list an on-campus hostel. Students arriving from outside Mumbai generally find paying-guest or shared housing in Wadala and Sion.

VIT Mumbai vs TSEC vs DJ Sanghvi College of Engineering

Applicants using MHT-CET may compare VIT Mumbai with Thadomal Shahani Engineering College in Bandra and Dwarkadas J. Sanghvi College of Engineering in Vile Parle. All three are private autonomous engineering colleges affiliated with the University of Mumbai and attract a similar group of applicants.

Biomedical Engineering sets VIT Mumbai apart because few private engineering colleges in Mumbai offer this programme. TSEC is recognised for Computer Science and Information Technology placement results, along with an alumni network in Mumbai and Pune IT firms. DJSCE has maintained placement performance in Computer Engineering, Information Technology and Electronics within western Mumbai.
