IIIT Agartala Admission Dates 2027

Admission to the B.Tech programme is based on the JEE Mains rank and takes place through centralised JoSAA counselling. The following schedule for the 2027 cycle is tentative and follows the established admission pattern. NTA and JoSAA will release the official schedule after JEE Mains 2027 registration begins.

IIIT Agartala Courses and Fees

IIIT Agartala presently concentrates on a single four-year B.Tech course in Computer Science and Engineering. Its total cost is INR 8.68 Lakhs, placing it among the lower-fee institutions in the central IIIT network. The fee level reflects government support under the Public-Private Partnership model and the cost structure in Northeast India.

Students study core areas such as algorithms, data structures, operating systems, database systems and computer networks. The curriculum also provides electives in machine learning, artificial intelligence and software engineering. NIT Agartala's Computer Science and Engineering department supports the programme through faculty assistance and curriculum coordination.

Fees are collected semester-wise. The two semesters of the first year together cost INR 2.22 Lakhs. Depending on the charges applied, the annual fee in later years ranges from INR 2.09 Lakhs to INR 2.17 Lakhs. Tuition remains INR 1,00,000 per semester throughout all eight semesters under the government-supported PPP arrangement for IIITs in Northeast India.

The institute currently limits its academic portfolio to CSE. It may introduce more specialisations or M.Tech courses as it develops, so students seeking several programme choices at a central IIIT should consider this present limitation.

IIIT Agartala Admission Process

B.Tech Admission

IIIT Agartala does not hold a separate entrance examination or offer direct B.Tech admission. JoSAA assigns every seat through its centralised rounds according to the applicant's JEE Mains rank.

• Applicants must complete 10+2 or an equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics from a recognised board.
• The required aggregate is 75%. The minimum is 65% for SC, ST and PwD applicants.
• A valid JEE Mains score is compulsory, but JEE Advanced is not needed.
• The process includes JoSAA registration, choice filling, seat allotment, online seat acceptance, document verification and physical reporting at the institute.

The admission process takes place in the following order:

1. Qualify for admission with a valid JEE Mains score.
2. Register on the JoSAA counselling portal.
3. Add IIIT Agartala and the B.Tech CSE programme during choice filling.
4. Accept the allotted seat online and complete the required payment.
5. Submit the documents for verification.
6. Report physically to IIIT Agartala after completing the online formalities.

Home-state quota provisions for the Northeast region also apply to IIIT Agartala. Under relevant state-level provisions in JoSAA, applicants from Tripura and other northeastern states may receive access to additional seats or relaxed eligibility conditions.

IIIT Agartala Cutoffs

The final-round General category closing rank for CSE has moved upward over successive JoSAA cycles. The 2026 cutoff remained broadly within a range similar to the previous cycle. Female-only supernumerary seats record higher closing ranks each year.

This movement indicates that IIIT Agartala has attracted growing interest among JEE Mains applicants.

IIIT Agartala Placements

Placement activity at IIIT Agartala has expanded as more batches have graduated. In the 2025 season, the institute reported an average package of INR 18.33 LPA and a highest package of INR 60 LPA. Employers have come from software development, technology services, e-commerce, analytics and product-based sectors, including both mid-sized and large technology companies.

The mentoring relationship with NIT Agartala gives IIIT Agartala indirect access to parts of the older institute's recruiter network. Its own recruiter base may broaden as it produces more graduating classes and develops a larger alumni community.

The highest offer of INR 60 LPA shows the outcome achieved by a strong CSE performer at this young institute. Available batch-level figures place most offers between INR 10 LPA and INR 25 LPA.

IIIT Agartala Campus and Infrastructure

IIIT Agartala presently shares the NIT Agartala campus in Agartala, Tripura. Students use classrooms, computer laboratories, a library section and separate hostel accommodation for male and female students at this location. They also have access to NIT Agartala's sports grounds, canteen and computing facilities.

The Tripura state government facilitated the allotment of 52 acres at Bodhjung Nagar in Agartala for a permanent IIIT Agartala campus. Construction is underway. Plans for the independent campus include academic and laboratory blocks, a central library, separate hostels and sports facilities.

The institute has 300 students across all four B.Tech years. Teaching is handled by its appointed staff and a small faculty group from NIT Agartala's CSE department. Research interests at the institute cover machine learning, theoretical computing and communication systems.

Agartala, the capital of Tripura, has air and rail connections with Kolkata and other major cities. Living costs in this northeastern location are lower than those at metropolitan campuses, complementing the institute's comparatively affordable fees.

IIIT Agartala vs IIIT Raichur vs IIIT Kottayam

Students considering IIIT Agartala during JoSAA counselling may also shortlist IIIT Raichur in Karnataka and IIIT Kottayam in Kerala. These newer central IIITs serve a similar applicant group and have comparable JEE Mains closing-rank ranges.

Among the three, IIIT Agartala has the lowest stated four-year B.Tech fee at INR 8.68 Lakhs. IIIT Raichur provides more specialisation choices and receives mentorship from an IIT instead of an NIT. IIIT Kottayam, established in 2015, is the oldest and has produced more graduating batches. All three are central IIITs of national importance and admit students from the same JoSAA applicant pool.
