IIIT Kalyani Admission Dates 2027

The 2027-28 admission schedule is expected to start with JEE Main 2027 registration in November 2026. JoSAA counselling for B.Tech is expected between June and July 2027. The schedule remains tentative until NTA and JoSAA issue their official announcements.

JoSAA is the only route for B.Tech seat allocation. Admission to the M.Tech in Embedded System and VLSI Design uses GATE scores and CCMT counselling. IIIT Kalyani manages Ph.D and Executive M.Tech admissions directly and posts their application notices on its official website.

IIIT Kalyani Courses and Fees

Students can study at undergraduate, postgraduate, executive postgraduate, and doctoral levels. All four B.Tech branches carry the same total fee. The figures below show total programme charges from the official 2026 data.

Working professionals can choose the flexibly delivered Executive M.Tech programmes. The regular, full-time postgraduate course is the M.Tech in Embedded System and VLSI Design, for which selection takes place through GATE and CCMT. IIT Kharagpur's guidance has shaped the curriculum, especially in ECE and VLSI.

IIIT Kalyani Admission Process

B.Tech Admission

IIIT Kalyani does not hold a separate entrance examination for B.Tech. Applicants first take JEE Main and then participate in JoSAA's online counselling process.

• Eligibility: Applicants must pass 10+2 or an equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
• Entrance: A valid JEE Main score is necessary.
• Process: Students register with JoSAA, enter their course choices online, receive seat allotment, complete document verification, and pay the required fee.

The annual intake includes 118 B.Tech CSE seats and 60 ECE seats. In recent JoSAA rounds, the General category closing rank for CSE has usually fallen between 15,000 and 25,000. ECE generally closes at a higher rank, which gives applicants a broader entry range. Demand for the AI and Data Science and Cyber Security specialisations is similar to that for core CSE.

M.Tech Admission

Selection for the regular M.Tech in Embedded System and VLSI Design depends on GATE scores and CCMT counselling. Applicants need a B.Tech or B.E. with at least 60% marks. The minimum is 55% for SC, ST, and PwD applicants. Executive M.Tech candidates apply separately to the institute, and their work experience forms part of the eligibility requirements.

Ph.D Admission

The institute conducts Ph.D selection twice each year through a written examination followed by an interview. Applicants must hold an M.Tech, or a B.Tech along with a GATE or UGC/CSIR NET qualification. Research at IIIT Kalyani includes machine learning, signal processing, cybersecurity, and embedded systems.

IIIT Kalyani Placements

The 2025 placement drive ended with a highest package of INR 44 LPA. Students received an average of INR 9.27 LPA, while the median stood at INR 9 LPA. The institute placed 91.66% of participating students, a comparatively high rate among newer peer IIITs. Employment opportunities came from IT services, product technology, electronics, telecom, and consulting.

Wipro, SAP, TCS, Ericsson India, Reliance JIO, and Deloitte were among the main recruiters in 2025. Hardware and telecom employers such as Ericsson recruit from ECE and VLSI, while software and analytics roles attract students from CSE and AI. The institute's Kalyani location places it near Kolkata's expanding technology sector and the industrial belt of West Bengal.

The small difference between the INR 9 LPA median and INR 9.27 LPA average shows that a few extreme offers did not heavily distort the average. The 91.66% rate is also notable because the institute has 62 doctoral scholars, whose usual career path is research rather than campus placement.

IIIT Kalyani Scholarships

Central government scholarships can help eligible SC, ST, OBC, and EWS students meet the B.Tech cost of INR 15.74 Lakhs.

Students who meet the conditions may submit their applications through the National Scholarship Portal at the beginning of each academic year. IIIT Kalyani does not currently list a separate merit scholarship of its own. Doctoral students may also gain fellowship and research funding opportunities through the institute's mentorship relationship with IIT Kharagpur.

IIIT Kalyani Campus and Infrastructure

Teaching currently takes place at the transit campus inside Webel IT Park, Kalyani, in West Bengal's Nadia district. As of August 2025, construction of the permanent 50-acre campus was 98% complete, with operations expected to begin in stages. The institute is 55 km north of Kolkata and can be reached by road and rail.

IIIT Kalyani has 654 students, comprising 592 undergraduates and 62 doctoral scholars, along with 26 faculty members. This gives the focused technology institute a manageable faculty-to-student ratio. As mentor, IIT Kharagpur supports curriculum standards, access to research laboratories, and faculty development. Hostel and residential facilities are expected to improve as the permanent campus becomes operational.
