B.Tech is a 4-year Engineering Program at the undergraduate level. B.Tech is offered in 30 different specializations across 4000 engineering colleges in India. Not all engineering colleges offer all the specializations. Some colleges offer some selected specializations. Computer Science Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Biotechnology Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, and Mining Engineering are popular branches of B.Tech.

Candidates with a minimum aggregate of 55% in 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as main subjects are eligible to apply for the course. Candidates aspiring for B.Tech admission must score a merit in national-level, state-level, or university-level entrance examinations. Candidates with qualifying merit can register for JoSAA counselling for seat allotment.

JEE Main is the most popular B.Tech admission entrance examination. Apart from JEE Main, a few engineering colleges accept some other entrance examinations, including BITSAT, KEAM, VITEE, WBJEE, and TNEA. Every year about 20 lakh aspirants take the entrance examination for B.Tech admission across India.

B.Tech Admission Procedure 2025

To get admission into any of the B Tech colleges or universities the candidates must appear for any of the national or state entrance exams, and candidates need to follow the below steps for admission.

  • Registration: Candidates must visit the official website of the exam/college to apply for B.Tech Admission 2025, and upload all the documents in the prescribed format.
  • Entrance Exam: Candidates must appear for the designated B.Tech Entrance Exams and achieve the required minimum cutoff.
  • Document verification: After the result declaration, candidates who have cleared the minimum cutoff criteria according to their respective category, must appear for the counselling process followed by the document verification where a college is allotted to them.

B.Tech Admission Eligibility Criteria 2025

There are some basic eligibility criteria that an applicant must fulfill while applying for any of the engineering exams in India.

  • Student must have Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics as their subjects in 10+2.
  • Students must have passed the 10 & 10+2 boards with an aggregate of 60% or equivalent from any recognized CBSE, ICSC, or State board. A relaxation of 5% is given to reserved category candidates
  • For admission to top colleges/ universities candidates need to qualify for the entrance examination, the scores or ranks of which will determine their admission to a college.
  • For pursuing B Tech in Biotechnology or biomedical engineering the student must have Biology as one of the subjects in 10+2.
