CEED 2027 Participating Institutes and M.Des Programmes

CEED qualification lets you apply only where you also meet the programme's admission eligibility. Some institutes offer Ph.D. routes through CEED as well; those are separate from the M.Des. intakes discussed here.

Previous-Year M.Des Seat Intake

These are selected institute intakes for 2026-27, not a combined total for every CEED-participating institute.

A programme intake is not always a CEED-only pool. IISc accepted CEED, GATE and CAT applicants for its M.Des. programme. IIT Bombay's additional research place had its own IIT-degree and CGPA conditions.

IIT Bombay M.Des Seats 2026-27

IIT Bombay listed 68 seats across five taught M.Des. streams.

The 68-seat intake included three PwD seats, allotted within the candidate's parent category. They are not three extra seats to add to 68. The EWS allocation was seven seats across the streams.

Industrial Design had 15 places, while Animation Design had 12. A single institute total therefore does not tell you how many places are available in your preferred stream.

IIT Bombay M.Des. by Research Seats

M.Des. by Research had a separate 10-seat matrix in 2026-27.

Within those ten places, one PwD seat was allotted from the candidate's parent category. The EWS seat was also included in the ten, not added separately.

One additional place was available for applicants with a B.Des./M.Des./M.Arch. degree from an IIT and a minimum CGPA/CPI of 8.00 on a 10-point scale. Eligible applicants on this route could apply for M.Des. by Research without a mandatory CEED score. That exception did not apply to the other M.Des. programmes.

This is why a single figure such as 78 can be incomplete: 68 taught-stream places and ten research places are different programmes, and the separately described additional IIT-graduate place needs its own conditions.

IIT Guwahati M.Des Seats 2026-27

IIT Guwahati listed 33 M.Des. Design seats for the July 2026 session.

Its notice reserved 5% of total seats for PwD candidates. Non-Regular category candidates could occupy at most 10% of the total seats in each discipline; that was a cap within the intake, not an extra ten-percent block.

The same notice stated that the M.Des. (EPD) programme was suspended until further notification. The 33-place Design row should not be duplicated as another 33-place EPD intake.

IISc M.Des Seats 2026-27

IISc Bangalore listed 18 seats for Product Design, Development and Management.

The admission routes accepted CEED, GATE or CAT scores. The eighteen places were the programme intake, not eighteen places earmarked only for CEED applicants. Selection used 70% weightage for the qualifying examination score and 30% for the interview.

IISc's notice distinguished the offer routes too: M.Des. offers through GATE used COAP, while candidates selected through CEED received their offer through the IISc Admissions Portal. CEED applicants should not assume that COAP is their offer-acceptance channel.

The seat-matrix note on additional women's seats applied to M.Tech. programmes. It did not establish an extra women's seat pool for this M.Des. programme.

How Category Reservations Affect Seat Totals

Read the category row and the footnotes together. General/Open, EWS, OBC, SC and ST counts add to the stated programme total in these matrices. A PwD place described as lying within a parent category is already part of that total.

For example, IIT Bombay's taught M.Des. matrix adds to 28 + 7 + 18 + 10 + 5 = 68. Adding the three PwD places again would incorrectly turn it into 71.

Use the published integer seat counts rather than multiplying a reservation percentage yourself. Rounding across small streams can otherwise produce a different number from the announced allocation.

How to Apply for a Seat After CEED

The CEED 2027 result is due on 3 March 2027, and scorecards can be downloaded from 10 March to 31 July. The score remains valid for one year from result declaration.

• Choose the exact M.Des. programme and check its qualifying-degree requirements.
• Apply through that institute's admission process; CEED exam registration is not the M.Des. admission application.
• Complete any programme-specific tasks, written test or interview required for selection.
• If offered a place, accept it through the specified portal and pay within the offer deadline.
• Submit the required degree, category and other documents for verification.

Admission eligibility can be narrower than CEED exam eligibility. A degree that allows you to take CEED does not automatically make you eligible for every M.Des. programme in the list.
