The number of groups is formed based on the number of candidates shortlisted and the number of GD rounds the institute wishes to conduct. Each group is given a topic to discuss for about 15-25 minutes. Topics of XLRI GD could be about current affairs, politics, and social issues concerning human rights, advertising, technology, education, or business in India.

Important Guidelines for XAT GD

  • Be updated with current affairs and various issues concerning our society, culture, politics, business, education, etc.
  • Make notes of the points you want to target in the discussion during the time given before each GD round.
  • Stick to the main topic and make your points in a clear and audible voice even if the GD turns chaotic.
  • Don’t get too aggressive while pitching your views. Use a respectful tone and language while talking with the ones who disagree with you.
  • Instead of focusing on showcasing your vocabulary focus on good and substantial points to put forward.
  • Address the entire group while making a point and not an individual.
  • Don’t be too shy to speak. If you don’t initiate, no one in the group will give you the chance to speak. Making at least some contribution to the GD will help you avoid elimination. The beginning and end of the GD is good time slot to get noticed.
  • Also, let other participants put forward their views. Do not cut their conversation in the middle, put your point after they finish.
  • Body Language: Sit straight, be active, and don’t intrude into other people’s space with too many hand gestures. Using of hands must be limited to your personal space and at the height of your chest.

XAT 2026 Personal interview

The Personal Interview (PI) round has questions about the candidate’s background, academics, extracurricular achievements, and motive behind selecting MBA for their career. The panelist gauges the candidates based on their communication skills, confidence, content, personality, and ability to think under pressure. Generally, the PI lasts for 10-15 minutes.

Important Guidelines for XAT PI

  • Don’t be afraid of the interviewers. They are experienced academic experts who just want to know you better and not reject you. So, relax and be yourself while answering the questions.
  • Follow the general etiquette, such as greeting them with a smile, making eye contact, addressing all the panelists while talking, and thanking them after the interview is over.
  • Be well-versed with your resume, essay, and application form and prepare accordingly.
  • Be honest in your answers and avoid dragging the answers. If you don’t know the answer to a question, admit that you don’t have any idea about it and apologize and move on.
  • Treat it like a talking session with a random person. It will help you get relaxed through ought the PI.
  • The time span of each interview is different and depends on various factors. A shorter interview does not mean elimination and a longer interview doesn’t guarantee selection
