National Institute of Technology Puducherry (NITPY) is inviting applications for Ph.D 2024-25 January Session. The institute welcomes candidates to apply across various academic departments. The last date to apply online is November 26, 2024,5 PM IST. The application fee for the unreserved category is INR 1000 and INR 500 for SC/ST/PWD candidates.

NIT Puducherry Ph.D Admission Categories

Full-Time Category

• Institute Fellowship includes the Direct Ph.D category, covers fellowships like CSIR-UGC/JRF/NET, etc., and includes sponsored candidates under bilateral agreements with NIT Puducherry.
• Research staff of sponsored research projects of NIT Puducherry are eligible to apply through the proper channel.
• Self-supported Indian candidates who are exceptional academic performers can join in their capacity, only limited seats are available.
• Self-supported Foreign candidates are admitted through the embassy of the foreign government after approval from the Ministry of External Affairs and NOC from the Ministry of Education (or) Study in India (SII) (or) admitted under MoU with NIT Puducherry.

Part-Time (Internal) Category

Regular employees of NIT Puducherry can apply under this category through the proper channel.

Part-Time (External) Category

• Regular/Full-time teachers, government employees, staff from private engineering/technology colleges, and employees from universities, industry, or the public sector are eligible.
• The candidate must have official permission from the employer, and require a minimum of 2 years of experience in a regular/permanent position. The workplace must have the necessary research and library facilities.
• The sponsoring organization must exist for at least 5 years and for startups, a minimum of 1 year of existence is required.
• The candidate must provide detailed information about available research facilities and should be allowed to complete the required coursework. A no-objection cum experience certificate from the parent organization is required to be submitted.

NIT Puducherry Ph.D Eligibility Criteria

Ph.D in Engineering

• Master's degree or M.S. by Research in Engineering/Technology with minimum 60% marks/CGPA 6.5/10 for OC/OBC category and minimum 55% marks/CGPA 6.0/10 for SC/ST/PwD candidates.
• For direct Ph.D. admission, a Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology with a valid GATE score and a minimum of 80% marks/CGPA 8.5/10 for OC/OBC category and minimum of 75% marks/CGPA 8.0/10 for SC/ST/PwD candidates.
• For candidates applying for the Part-Time External category, a Bachelor's degree with 20+ years of relevant industrial experience with a minimum of 60% marks/CGPA 6.5/10 for OC/OBC candidates and a minimum of 55% marks/CGPA 6.0/10 for SC/ST/PwD candidates.

Ph.D in Mathematics/Physics/Chemistry/English/Social Science

• Master's degree in relevant discipline with first class in either Bachelor's or Master's degree, the minimum marks required are 60% or CGPA 6.5/10 for OC/OBC Candidates and 55% or CGPA 6.0/10 for SC/ST/PwD candidates.
• Valid CSIR-UGC NET (including lectureship/Assistant Professorship) or GATE score is mandatory for the institute fellowship.

NIT Puducherry Ph.D Selection Procedure

The eligible candidates recommended by the Departmental Selection Committee from the received applications will be screened through a written test and interview. A common written test will be held for both full-time and part-time candidates. The merit list of the candidates after the written test and interview will be submitted to the Chairperson Senate for approval.

NIT Puducherry Ph.D Fee Structure (Full Time/Part Time)

• Candidates belonging to the GEN/OBC/EWS category can check the 1st Semester fee details mentioned below:

The total fee for 2nd Semester is INR 14925, excluding the one-time payment mentioned in the 1st Semester Fee.

• Candidates belonging to the SC/ST/PWD category do not have to submit the Tuition fee, therefore the total fee for Semester 1 is INR 11875, and for Semester 2 it's INR 7425.

NIT Puducherry Ph.D Financial Assistance

• The institution offers a limited number of research fellowships exclusively for full-time Ph.D scholars under the Institute Fellowship scheme, specifically targeting those who aren't receiving any other financial assistance.
• Currently, these fellows receive a monthly stipend of INR 37,000/- (HTTRA) but are required to contribute at least 8 hours per week assisting their respective departments with academic work.
• For candidates holding qualifications like UGC/CSIR/NET, there's flexibility to utilize their respective Doctoral Fellowships once they're admitted to the Ph.D program.
