According to the official report, IIT Kharagpur is all set to launch its MBBS program in medicine at the esteemed B C Roy Institute of Medical Science and Technology. The implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has highlighted this new initiative, with a focus on incorporating technology into the curriculum. The program is currently in the design phase and awaits approval from the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and National Medical Commission. The first batch of MBBS students is expected to have 100 seats.

A dedicated committee at IIT Kharagpur is working to design and implement this unique MBBS program, aiming to integrate engineering and technology into the field of medicine. The institute envisions a comprehensive curriculum that goes beyond traditional medical sciences, encompassing fundamental sciences, engineering, and technology, opening up various opportunities for the students. IIT Kharagpur Director, VK Tewari, intends to provide MBBS students exposure to diverse disciplines available at the institute.

To gain admission to the MBBS course, students will need to take the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET UG), a national-level entrance examination.

IIT Kharagpur aims to make a valuable contribution to the medical education sector by offering a research-driven program, responding to the current demand for additional medical education seats in the country.

Furthermore, IIT Kharagpur plans to introduce a dual degree program enabling students to pursue both BTech and MTech courses simultaneously. The institute is also set to launch a four-year bachelor's degree program in science.

This move by IIT Kharagpur represents a significant step towards revolutionizing medical education and technology integration in India.
