University of Lucknow Courses and Fees

University of Lucknow has more than 200 courses at UG, PG and doctoral levels. The fee range starts from INR 0.23 Lakhs for traditional arts programmes and goes up to INR 5 Lakhs for B.Naturopathy and Yogic Science. Self-financed professional courses such as B.Tech and MBA have higher fee structures.

M.Sc Applied Geology is a key course for placements through ONGC. M.Sc Biotechnology costs INR 2.60 Lakhs, while BCA costs INR 2.17 Lakhs. The specialised MBA programmes in Finance, HR, Marketing, Business Analytics, International Business, and Accounting and Finance each cost INR 3.24 Lakhs. The mainstream MBA fee is INR 1.93 Lakhs.

University of Lucknow Admission Process

University of Lucknow follows different admission routes for different courses. Most professional programmes need an entrance exam, while traditional arts, science and commerce courses use merit or the university entrance process.

1. Students first choose the course and check its eligibility rule.
2. They complete the LU admission form through the university portal, where applicable.
3. For entrance-based courses, students appear for the required exam such as UGET, PGET, CLAT, CAT, LUMET, JEE Main, CUET PG, GATE or RET.
4. Shortlisted students take part in counselling, document checking, interviews or seat allotment as required for the course.
5. Admission is confirmed after fee payment and verification of eligibility documents.

UG Programmes (BA / B.Sc / B.Com / BBA / BCA)

For most UG courses, students must pass Class 12 from a recognised board. The usual minimum marks are 45% for General and OBC students and 40% for SC and ST students. BBA and BCA need 50% for General and OBC students and 45% for SC and ST students. UGET is an offline test with 100 MCQs, 200 marks, 90 minutes and no negative marking.

B.Tech

B.Tech admission is based on JEE Main scores, and seat allotment is handled through UPTAC, the Uttar Pradesh Technical Admission Counselling process. LU offers 450 seats across AI, Civil, CSE, Electrical, ECE and Mechanical Engineering. Seats are allotted according to JEE Main rank and category.

Law (BALLB / LLB)

BALLB has a 5-year duration and 330 seats. LLB has a 3-year duration and 320 seats. Both courses use CLAT scores. General Category students need a minimum CLAT score of 60 out of 120, while OBC, SC, ST and PwD students need 54 out of 120. Applications are filed on LU's portal at lkounivadm.samarth.edu.in and not through the CLAT portal.

MBA

The 2-year MBA has 540 seats and accepts CAT or LUMET scores. The minimum CAT requirement is 50 percentile for General Category students and 45 percentile for reserved category students. Final selection gives 70% weight to the written test and 30% to the Personal Interview. LUMET tests General Awareness, English Verbal Ability, Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative Aptitude.

PG Programmes (MA / M.Sc / M.Com / MCA)

Most PG courses use PGET for admission. Students need a relevant bachelor's degree with 45% marks for General and OBC categories and 40% for SC and ST categories. MCA admission uses CUET PG and requires graduation with Mathematics at Class 12 or graduation level, along with at least 50% marks.

Ph.D

For Ph.D admission, students need a master's degree with 55% marks for General, OBC and EWS categories and 50% for SC, ST and PwD categories. Selection is based on the Research Entrance Test with 70% weight and a Personal Interview with 30% weight. UGC-NET, CSIR-NET, JRF, GATE and SLET qualified students do not have to appear for RET.

University of Lucknow Placements

University of Lucknow placed 2,441 students in 2023-24 with participation from 197 companies. The placement rate was 81%. ONGC offered the highest package of INR 23.61 LPA to an M.Sc Geology student, and the overall average package was INR 8.6 LPA.

PG courses such as 2-year MBA, M.Sc and MA formed the largest placed group. A total of 1,923 students from these courses were placed at a median package of INR 7.86 LPA. The highest MBA package was INR 11 LPA, while B.Tech CSE students received packages up to INR 7 LPA.

University of Lucknow Rankings

University of Lucknow has been ranked in several NIRF categories in 2025. Its Law faculty received rank 29, while the university was placed at 27 among State Public Universities.

The NIRF State Public Universities rank stood at 27 in 2025, improving from 32 in 2024. The NIRF Law rank was 29 in 2025, after rank 23 in 2024.

University of Lucknow Campus and Infrastructure

University of Lucknow's main campus is on Badshahbagh Road in Lucknow. Its central building, built in 1921, is a heritage structure with Nawabi and colonial design features. The campus includes the central administrative offices, Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Commerce, Faculty of Law and the Institute of Management Sciences (IMS).

The central library is counted among the largest university libraries in Uttar Pradesh and has a wide collection of books, journals and digital databases. The university provides separate hostels for male and female students. Sports grounds, NCC and NSS units, and cultural activity centres are also part of the campus facilities.

University of Lucknow Scholarships

University of Lucknow offers scholarships through government schemes as well as university support. SC and ST students can receive full tuition fee reimbursement under the UP Government Scholarship Scheme. General, OBC and EWS students with family income below INR 2 Lakhs per annum can apply for income-based reimbursement.

University of Lucknow vs Banaras Hindu University vs University of Allahabad

Students choosing arts, science, law or management courses in Uttar Pradesh often compare University of Lucknow with Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and University of Allahabad. All three are old institutions in north India, but their funding type, fee levels and research strength are different.

University of Lucknow's position in the state capital gives students access to corporate offices, the Lucknow High Court Bench and government offices. This is useful for law and MBA students. BHU is bigger, has a wider research ecosystem and is known as an Institute of National Importance with lower fees because of central funding. University of Allahabad has a long academic history in humanities and law and remains known for producing civil services aspirants.
