Aliah University is a government-run minority university in New Town, Kolkata, and it was earlier called Mohammedan College of Calcutta. Mohammedan College of Calcutta became a university in 2008. The university offers UG, PG and PhD courses in areas such as Engineering, Management, Law and Science, with B.Tech and MBA among its well-known options.

Admission is online and depends on entrance tests or previous academic marks. Most courses use the Aliah University Admission Test (AUAT). B.Tech admission may use JEE Main, WBJEE or AUAT scores, while B.Tech lateral entry uses JELET. M.Tech needs a GATE score, and B.Ed. selection uses both previous marks and AUAT performance. At the UG level, Aliah University offers B.Tech, BA, BA/B.Sc. (H), B.Ed. and the 5-Year Integrated MBA. B.Tech needs Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, while BA and BA/B.Sc. Aliah University B.Tech Lateral Eligibility Criteria 2026

For B.Tech lateral entry, students need a Diploma in Engineering in Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Computer Science or Electronics & Telecommunication with at least 60% overall marks. Students appearing for the final examination can also apply if their average from the 1st to 5th semester of the Diploma in Engineering is 45%.

Aliah University offers M.Tech, MCA, MA, MA/M.Sc., M.Sc., MJMC and LLM at the PG level. Students who have passed or are appearing in the 7th semester can apply if they have a CGPA of 6.5 up to the 6th semester.

Aliah University PG Courses Admission 2026

For MA, MA/M.Sc. in Geography, MA/M.Sc. in MJMC, LLM, MA in Urdu, MM/MA in Theology, M.Sc. in Statistics and Informatics and the 2-year M.Sc. in Mathematics, students must complete a 3-year degree and meet the minimum marks required in the relevant Honours or Major subject from a recognized university.

  • Students who have passed Part I and Part II examinations, or equivalent grades, in the relevant Honours or Major subject from any recognized university may appear for AUAT.
  • Admission will be cancelled if the student does not secure at least 40% aggregate marks in the Part III or Final Examination.

For LLM, students need a 3-year LLB or Integrated 5-year LLB with at least 45% aggregate marks. All courses use AUAT conducted by Aliah University for selection.

Aliah University PhD Admission 2026

Aliah University offers PhD courses in Engineering, Science, Humanities, Social Sciences and Religious Studies. It also offers Doctor of Letters (D.Litt.) in Humanities, Social Sciences and Religious Studies, and Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) in Science and Engineering. D.Litt. and D.Sc. are above the PhD degree and are awarded on the basis of research aptitude and number of publications.
