Ashoka University Undergraduate Admissions

Ashoka admits students to a common multidisciplinary undergraduate programme leading to BA (Hons.) or B.Sc. (Hons.). Students normally declare their major during the programme. The AMC route provides an exception: top scorers receive a confirmed place in their chosen Computer Science, Mathematics or Physics major.

The August 2027 intake has 4 regular rounds open to all applicants and a separate science-focused AMC round. The early AMC application window ran from September 1 to 15, 2026, following its assessment on August 23, 2026. Unlike the regular rounds, this route required candidates to take the assessment before submitting the early-round application.

No academic stream is excluded. AMC applicants need Mathematics at Class 11 and Class 12 level, whether studied through a regular board, NIOS or a recognised online route. Students choosing AAA may subsequently study Computer Science, Mathematics or Physics by clearing the relevant departmental gateway courses. A humanities student may also apply for BA (Hons.) Economics without having studied Mathematics in Class 12.

Mandatory Assessments

Every undergraduate applicant completes the On-the-Spot Essay and chooses either the Ashoka Aptitude Assessment or the Ashoka Mathematics Challenge at the application stage. The essay lasts 30 minutes: candidates select 1 of 2 prompts and write in English. It is compulsory in every round.

Developed with Cambridge, AAA comprises 20 problem-solving questions and 20 critical-thinking questions. AMC follows the Class 11 and Class 12 Mathematics curriculum at CBSE and ISC standard. Assessment centres are available in more than 40 cities across India, and applicants select their preferred cities in the form.

Regular-round assessments take place about 2 weeks after the respective application deadlines. Optional standardised scores can strengthen an application, but holding SAT, ACT, CUET or JEE Main scores does not exempt a candidate from either mandatory Ashoka assessment component.

How Selection Works

The admission committee evaluates Class 12 results, the personal essay, assessment performance and the interview together. It publishes no fixed weightage for these components. Academic marks are considered in relation to the applicant's board, school and circumstances.

Online Application Procedure

1. Open the undergraduate application portal and register using your name, email address and mobile number.
2. Enter academic information, including Class 10 and Class 12 board details, stream and scores.
3. Select up to 3 course preferences and choose AAA or AMC.
4. Complete the non-academic engagement section and write the personal essay within the form.
5. Add optional SAT, ACT, CUET or JEE Main scorecards and letters of recommendation.
6. Select preferred assessment cities from the available locations.
7. Submit the application before the selected round's deadline. No application fee is charged at any stage.
8. Download the assessment confirmation and attend the essay and chosen assessment on the scheduled date.
9. If shortlisted, attend the panel interview and monitor the application portal for the decision.

This registration procedure applies to the regular rounds and the AMC round, subject to the early AMC assessment sequence. An application cannot be transferred to a later round within the same cycle. Missing the assessment scheduled for the chosen round invalidates that application.

Applying in Round 1 or Round 2 allows more time to compare offers. Round 1 decisions arrive on February 3, 2027, before most board examinations finish. Round 4 decisions arrive on June 30, 2027, with confirmation required within a month.

Ashoka University Postgraduate Admissions

MA applications use the postgraduate portal and follow an online application, programme-specific assessment and interview process for shortlisted candidates. MA Economics and MA English are 2-year residential degrees. MA Economics and Data Analytics is a 1-year, full-time residential programme and the most quantitative of these three options.

Programme-specific Assessments

MA Economics does not require Mathematics at Class 12 level. Its objective entrance examination has compulsory Statistics and Analytical Reasoning sections, after which candidates choose either the Mathematics section or the Economics section.

MA Economics and Data Analytics is suited to applicants from Economics, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics and Statistics, while also accepting a wider range of degrees. Ashoka University Ph.D. Admissions

Doctoral Selection Procedure

1. Read the chosen department's admission notification and submit the departmental application.
2. Provide a research proposal or statement of interest where requested.
3. Take the departmental entrance examination.

The stated departmental examination requirement also applies to candidates holding a national fellowship qualification. Larger departments usually conduct interviews over 2 days. The departmental notification provides the requirements for the particular admission window.

The earlier planning outline for 2027 projected notifications from January, a History deadline in March and test in April, an Economics deadline in April and test in May, and interviews in May. These were projections from the previous cycle rather than a common confirmed doctoral calendar.

In the 2026-27 cycle, History applications closed on March 20, 2026, its examination took place on April 6, 2026, and interviews were held on May 1 and 2, 2026. Economics applications closed on April 30, 2026, followed by its examination on May 17, 2026.

Young India Fellowship Diploma Admissions

The Young India Fellowship is a 1-year residential postgraduate diploma in Interdisciplinary Studies with a cohort of roughly 100 Fellows. It uses an application separate from undergraduate and master's admissions. Selection is based on the written application, essays, video essay and interview, with no written entrance examination.

Application Documents and Selection

Among these institutions, Ashoka alone does not permit a national or international test score to replace its assessment. Krea and OP Jindal accept CUET, providing an option for applicants already taking that examination.
