Vidyasagar college was set up in 1872 by Pandit Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar who formerly named it Metropolitan college. The college has been recognised by NAAC, graded ‘B’. Vidyasagar college is affiliated with Calcutta University and it follows the syllabus and curriculum as provided by the university. It is one of the oldest educational institutions in India and it was also the first private college in India which was run by the Indians.
