IEM Kolkata Admission Dates 2026

For B.Tech admission in 2026-27, IEM Kolkata accepts WBJEE and JEE Main ranks through counselling. The regular WBJEE exam, result and centralised counselling events are over. The remaining schedule is for WBJEE 2026 decentralised counselling, which fills vacant seats through online phases and institute reporting.

IEM Kolkata Courses and Fees

IEM Kolkata offers courses in engineering, management, computing and applied sciences. B.Tech is the largest programme, with 12 specialisations and 713 seats across branches. The total course fee starts at INR 3.02 Lakhs for M.Tech and goes up to INR 9.45 Lakhs for B.Tech.

CSE, CSE (AI and Machine Learning), IT and ECE are the most in-demand B.Tech branches and also form a major part of placement activity. The institute also offers CSE (IoT and Cyber Security including Blockchain), Aerospace Engineering and Biotechnology, which are not common options among private colleges in West Bengal.

IEM Kolkata Admission Process

IEM Kolkata admission depends on the course. B.Tech admission mainly happens through WBJEE counselling, while IEMJEE is used for direct admission to remaining seats. MBA, M.Tech, MCA, BCA and BBA follow their own entrance or merit-based routes.

B.Tech Admission

For B.Tech, IEM uses WBJEE counselling as the main admission channel. IEMJEE is used by the institute for seats that remain after counselling. About 85% of seats are filled through WBJEE centralised rounds.

• Eligibility: Students must have passed 10+2 or an equivalent exam with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subjects.
• Entrance exams accepted: WBJEE, JEE Main for merit ranking, and IEMJEE as IEM’s own entrance test for direct admission.
• Selection stages: WBJEE rank, WBJEEB centralised counselling, choice filling, seat allotment in four rounds, document checking, fee payment and reporting. Students who do not get an allotment can take part in the decentralised round run through IEM.

Based on past WBJEE closing rank data for the General Category at IEM Salt Lake, CSE usually closes between rank 10,000 and 25,000. IT often closes between 20,000 and 40,000, while ECE generally closes between 40,000 and 70,000.

MBA Admission

• Eligibility: Applicants need a graduation degree in any discipline with at least 50% aggregate from a recognised university.
• Entrance exams: IEM accepts CAT or JEMAT, which is the West Bengal state MBA entrance test. Shortlisted students then attend a Group Discussion and Personal Interview at IEM.
• NBA accreditation: The MBA programme is NBA-accredited.

M.Tech and MCA Admission

For M.Tech, students need a B.Tech degree with at least 60% aggregate and a valid GATE score. MCA admission is based on WBJECA or GATE scores. Both courses are admitted directly through IEM, and there is no separate GD/PI round for them.

IEM Kolkata Placements

In the 2023-24 placement season, IEM Kolkata placed 774 B.Tech students out of 885 eligible students. Amazon offered the highest B.Tech package of INR 32 LPA for a Software Development Engineer role. The B.Tech median package submitted for NIRF 2025 was INR 6 LPA.

IEM recruiters come from IT services, consulting and BFSI. Across placement seasons, confirmed recruiters include TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Cognizant, IBM, Oracle, SAP, Capgemini, EY, PwC, Deloitte, Amazon, HDFC Bank, Axis Bank, Federal Bank, ITC, CESC Limited, Accenture and Airtel. In the 2023-24 season, TCS selected 44 B.Tech students at INR 7.50 LPA through its R and D digital drive. The Salt Lake Sector V location also helps students access internships because many technology company offices and IT parks are nearby.

IEM Kolkata Rankings

IEM Kolkata is placed in the 151 to 200 band in NIRF Engineering 2025. The college has stayed in this band across recent NIRF cycles, placing it among the notable private engineering colleges in eastern India.

The institute has NAAC A accreditation with a CGPA of 3.25. It also has NBA accreditation for CSE, IT, ECE, EE and MBA. IEM is the only private engineering college in West Bengal to hold this NAAC and NBA accreditation combination at the same time. The college is also approved by AICTE.

IEM Kolkata Scholarships

IEM gives merit scholarships based on entrance exam performance. Students can also use state government and centrally sponsored schemes. Its institutional tuition waivers are among the major scholarship options available in the private engineering college space in West Bengal.

Students can also access education loan tie-ups with Axis Bank, Credila and InCred. The stated interest range is 10.5% to 14.5% per annum. IEM also helps eligible students apply through the National Scholarship Portal for centrally sponsored schemes.

IEM Kolkata Campus and Infrastructure

IEM Salt Lake is based in Sector V of the Salt Lake Electronics Complex, Kolkata. It has two campuses: Ashram Campus at GN 34/2 and Gurukul Campus at Y-12, Block EP. The total campus area is 17 acres, with 11 academic blocks for different departments. Since the college is in Sector V, students are close to several major IT company offices.

The college has hostel facilities in 10 blocks. Of these, 6 blocks are for male students and 4 are for female students. The hostels can accommodate 3,200 students, and 65% to 70% of outstation B.Tech students stay on campus. Hostel blocks include common rooms, study halls and mess facilities.

The academic facilities include department-wise laboratories, a central library, a computing centre, seminar halls and project rooms. IEM’s location near Infosys, IBM, Wipro, TCS, Cognizant and other Sector V companies supports guest lectures, live projects and internship opportunities without long travel.

IEM Kolkata vs Techno India University vs Heritage Institute of Technology

IEM Salt Lake, Techno India University and Heritage Institute of Technology (HIT) are choices for many WBJEE students looking at private engineering colleges in Kolkata and West Bengal. IEM and HIT are affiliated with MAKAUT, while Techno India University is a private university. All three are AICTE-approved and located in or near Kolkata’s IT corridor.

IEM has a wider spread of NBA-accredited departments and larger hostel infrastructure. Techno India University offers the flexibility of a private university in curriculum and grading. HIT has been present in Kolkata engineering education for a longer period and has a strong alumni network in core engineering areas. Fees are similar across the three institutes, and they usually attract students in the WBJEE rank band of 10,000 to 80,000 for CSE and allied branches.
