IIITDM Kancheepuram Admission Dates 2027

Students seeking admission to the B.Tech 2027-31 batch can prepare for the tentative JEE Main and counselling schedule given below. The final schedule will depend on announcements from NTA and the Ministry of Education.

IIITDM Kancheepuram Courses and Fees

Programmes at IIITDM Kancheepuram include B.Tech, a B.Tech + M.Tech dual degree, M.Tech, M.Des and Ph.D. The curriculum adds design thinking and manufacturing science to conventional engineering education.

Among the M.Tech choices are RF and Microwave Engineering, Smart Manufacturing, AI and Data Science, and Microelectronics and VLSI Design. Integrated Product Design is offered through the M.Des programme, one of the few Master of Design courses available at a central government technical institute in south India.

IIITDM Kancheepuram Admission Process

Admission requirements vary by programme. JEE Main is used for undergraduate and dual-degree entry, while postgraduate applicants need GATE or CEED as applicable. Ph.D selection includes an institute-level assessment and interview.

B.Tech and Dual Degree Admission

Seats in the B.Tech and B.Tech + M.Tech programmes are allotted using JEE Main ranks through the centralised JoSAA and CSAB systems.

• Complete Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Applicants need at least 75% in Class 12, while the requirement for SC, ST and PwD applicants is 65%.
• Submit branch choices during JoSAA counselling. Seat allocation depends on the JEE Main rank, category and selected branch preferences.
• Students who do not receive a seat through JoSAA may take part in the CSAB special rounds.

For the General category, the Round 6 closing rank for Computer Science and Engineering in JEE Main 2025 was 19,069. Artificial Intelligence closed at 20,190. ECE and Mechanical Engineering generally close at larger rank numbers, which indicates lower competition. General-category students with ranks from 15,000 to 25,000 can compete for most branches.

M.Tech and M.Des Admissions

An M.Tech applicant must hold a valid GATE score in the relevant field and participate in CCMT centralised counselling. M.Des admission uses CEED, the Common Entrance Examination for Design. Merit rank is used to shortlist applicants who have qualified through GATE or CEED.

Ph.D Admissions

IIITDM Kancheepuram conducts Ph.D admission twice each year. Applicants may qualify through GATE, UGC-NET or an equivalent examination. They must then complete a departmental written test and interview. Funded doctoral positions are offered through the Visvesvaraya Ph.D scheme and projects sponsored by DST or SERB.

IIITDM Kancheepuram Placements

During the 2025 placement season, the institute recorded a highest package of INR 32.57 LPA from the CSE and AI departments. The combined average package was INR 10.20 LPA. Of the 260 registered students, 198 obtained offers and 161 were placed. This resulted in an overall placement rate of 61.9%.

The recruiters participating in the 2025 season included JP Morgan, Adobe, Microchip, Samsung, Ford, MathWorks, PayPal, Zoho, Capgemini and Skuad. Most hiring came from IT, product-based businesses and core engineering companies.

IIITDM Kancheepuram Rankings

IIITDM Kancheepuram takes part in the NIRF Engineering ranking. Its 2025 result placed it within the 151-200 band.

This band shows the institute’s standing in comparison with larger NITs and IITs. IIITDM Jabalpur, another central government IIITDM, also appears within the NIRF Engineering range from 100 to 200.

IIITDM Kancheepuram Campus and Infrastructure

The institute has a 51.75-acre campus near Vandalur in southern Chennai. Its address is off Vandalur-Kelambakkam Road. Vandalur station, on the Chennai-Chengalpattu suburban line, provides rail access, and the area is also connected by road.

Campus facilities include separate academic blocks for different departments, an Institute Computer Centre, an Institute Instrumentation Centre and a central library with digital resources. Male and female students have hostel facilities, and the institute also provides sports infrastructure. The on-campus MaDeIT Innovation Foundation assists design and manufacturing startups created by students and alumni.

The campus size matches the institute’s intake. Its proximity to the SIPCOT and Mahindra City industrial corridor gives students in manufacturing and design programmes opportunities for industry exposure.

IIITDM Kancheepuram vs IIITDM Jabalpur vs IIITDM Kurnool

IIITDM Kancheepuram, IIITDM Jabalpur and IIITDM Kurnool are central government Institutes of National Importance under the Ministry of Education. Each follows a curriculum centred on design and manufacturing, while B.Tech admission is conducted through JEE Main and JoSAA or CSAB counselling.

Kancheepuram benefits from access to Chennai’s industries and offers variety in its placement opportunities. Jabalpur has a substantially larger campus and a longer record in research, while Kurnool is the newest institute and continues to develop its placement network. Students from southern India commonly choose Kancheepuram for its location, whereas Jabalpur is often preferred by students from central India.
