Official Qualifying Cutoff: 2026

NBEMS announced these initial values with the result on 24 September 2026. A later reduction, if notified, would be a separate official decision. Do not carry a prior year's reduced threshold into the next examination.

The General PwBD row uses the 45th percentile; SC/ST/OBC candidates, including PwBD candidates within those categories, use the 40th-percentile row. Grouping every candidate with a disability into one 45th-percentile category would misstate the rule.

Percentile Is Not Marks Percentage

The 50th percentile does not mean half of the maximum marks. Half of 720 is 360, whereas the initial 2026 General/EWS qualifying mark was 262. A percentile threshold is based on relative performance, so its corresponding raw marks can change between examinations.

The raw-score formula is 4 x correct answers - incorrect answers. For example, 75 correct and 38 wrong give 262 marks; 67 unanswered questions complete the 180-question attempt. This is one arithmetic combination that reaches the 2026 threshold, not a recommended attempt strategy.

It also does not predict rank. Candidates with the same score can be separated by incorrect-response counts, group-wise tie-breaks, academic percentage and age. The result rules set out that order.

Qualifying Cutoff Versus College Closing Rank

A qualifying General/EWS score of 262 does not establish eligibility for a particular General Medicine seat. Branch preferences, category documents and available seats still govern allotment. Nor does a previous closing rank guarantee an offer at the same rank in a later year.

For a useful historical comparison, keep every field in the next section the same. Comparing an NRI seat with an AIQ open seat or a stray round with Round 1 can make a much wider rank appear relevant when the applicant cannot use that seat pool.

How to Compare College Cutoffs

Consider a hypothetical entry labelled MD Anaesthesiology, College A, AIQ, Open, Round 1. Its closing rank cannot be substituted for MD General Medicine at that college, for a state-quota seat, or for Round 3. The example describes how to read a record; it does not assign a fabricated closing rank.

The college guide separates institutional and counselling routes. Course fees should also match the same branch and category rather than a college-wide minimum drawn from an unrelated programme.

Category and Quota Conditions

These AIQ reservation figures are not examination pass percentages. For OBC-NCL, the relevant central-list and certificate conditions apply. The PwD 5% figure is horizontal reservation, not an additional separate vertical quota.

A candidate can meet the examination cutoff but fail the claimed seat-category documentation. General qualifying status does not automatically establish an internal-university or state eligibility route either. The counselling guide covers the required certificates and seat-pool distinction.

Using a Qualifying Score for 2026 Admission

The 2026 counselling cycle is still ahead of Round 1 registration on 12 October. The tentative schedule lists the first allotment result on 24 October. A 2026 Round 1 closing rank cannot be presented as already published before that allotment.

Use the scorecard, eligible category and branch preferences to prepare for the relevant MCC or state process. Registration, payment and choice locking are separate actions. The admission timetable includes the noon registration and 3 PM payment cutoffs on the final registration day.
