Build a Subject Map Before Choosing Daily Targets

Divide the MBBS syllabus into preclinical foundations, paraclinical and preventive subjects, and clinical disciplines. Mark which topics are understood, which have been revised and which still produce errors in questions. These are different states: reading a chapter is not the same as applying it.

Within an organ system, connect anatomy and physiology with pathology, pharmacology and clinical presentation. For example, a respiratory case can ask about gas exchange, a radiographic finding, an organism or a drug effect. A connected note avoids treating each clue as an unrelated fact.

Use a known subject text or your established notes to resolve a specific gap. Replacing the entire resource set after every poor mock can make it harder to finish and revisit the material already identified.

Practise 36 Questions in 42 Minutes

The average allowance is 70 seconds per question, calculated from 42 minutes divided by 36. It is not a mandatory time limit on each question. A short recall item can leave time for a longer vignette within the same group.

There is no whole-paper return to Group A at the end. Practise making and reviewing choices before the block closes. Use the paper rules to distinguish a review marker from permission to revisit a closed group.

Read a Clinical Vignette by Its Task

First identify the task in the last line: diagnosis, mechanism, investigation, complication or management principle. Then use age, onset, chronology, examination and investigations to identify the decisive clue. A correct medical statement can still be the wrong response to the question asked.

When two options seem plausible, write the finding that favours one over the other. If no supplied finding supports the distinction, inspect whether a clue was overlooked rather than adding a fact to the case. For image questions, name the visible abnormality before connecting it to the options.

Review negative stems separately. An EXCEPT question asks for the inconsistent option, even when the other three statements are familiar and true.

Review Errors by Cause

A review note should be small enough to revisit: the missed concept, the decisive clue and the distinction between the closest options. Copying the whole explanation can hide the reason the answer was wrong.

Repeat the test with a fresh question later. Immediately remembering the correct option in the same question checks recognition, not necessarily whether the concept can be transferred to a new case.

Compare Mock Scores Fairly

For a 36-question practice group, 24 correct, eight wrong and four blank answers give 88 out of 144 under +4/-1/0 marking. Attempt accuracy is 24/32 = 75%; the score percentage is 88/144, about 61.11%. They measure different things.

Compare tests with the same question count and scoring rule, and keep timed and untimed attempts separate. An old 300-question compilation and a 180-question current-format mock do not have the same maximum. A recalled set may also omit questions or images.

The paper and practice collection states the actual file length and includes an original reviewed drill. Its short-set accuracy is not a NEET PG percentile or an admission prediction.

A Repeatable Revision Cycle

During a busy internship posting, reduce the size of a question block if necessary but keep its review step. Label it a short practice set, not a full timed section. Use longer uninterrupted sessions for the complete 36-question block and, later, the full five-group structure.

Give the next revision slot to errors that recur across different questions. Keep a separate list of unstudied topics so a high score in a familiar subject does not conceal missing syllabus coverage.
