UCEED 2027 Eligibility: Three Conditions

These conditions apply to Indian and foreign applicants. Passing an equivalent examination does not remove the age or attempt limits. Registration is open until 31 October 2026 with the regular fee, and until 6 November, 5 pm with the applicable late fee.

UCEED Age Limit 2027

The cutoff date is inclusive. An OPEN-category candidate born on 1 October 2002 meets the age condition; a candidate born on 30 September 2002 does not. OBC-NCL and EWS candidates use the same birth-date cutoff as OPEN candidates.

Use the date of birth supported by your age-proof document. The registration documents accept an SSC certificate, passport or birth certificate as proof of age.

How Many UCEED Attempts Are Allowed?

UCEED allows two attempts in consecutive years. The number of attempts is not the only check: your first Class 12 appearance must also fall within the eligible years.

Skipping an earlier UCEED attempt does not extend the Class 12 eligibility window. Similarly, a later improvement examination does not reset the year in which you first appeared for Class 12.

Class 12 Appearance and the 2025 Exception

For the normal route, you must have appeared for Class 12 or an equivalent examination for the first time in 2026 or 2027. Appearance means the Board declared results for that examination year, whether or not the examination itself was conducted. A withheld individual result still counts as an appearance.

There is a narrow exception for a Board that declared its 2024-25 results on or after 30 September 2025. Students from that Board who appeared in 2025 can take UCEED 2027 if they also meet the age and attempt requirements. If the Board declared the results before that date but only your result was withheld, the exception does not apply.

This exception concerns permission to take the examination. The BDes admission criteria separately specify passing in 2026 or 2027 and exclude a first appearance in 2025 or earlier. A student relying on the Board-result exception should obtain clarification from the UCEED office about admission before treating the exam permission as a seat-eligibility decision.

Which Qualifications Are Accepted?

• 10+2 final examination from a Central or State Board recognised by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
• Intermediate or two-year Pre-University examination from an AIU-recognised Board or University.
• Final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy.
• NIOS Senior Secondary School Examination with at least five subjects.
• An Indian or foreign public-school, Board or University examination recognised as equivalent to 10+2 by AIU or UGC.
• HSC vocational examination.
• GCE Advanced Level examination from London, Cambridge or Sri Lanka.
• Cambridge High School Certificate or the International Baccalaureate Diploma from the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.
• An AICTE- or State Board of Technical Education-recognised diploma of at least three years.

Candidates who completed Class 12 outside India or through a Board not listed in the accepted routes must produce AIU equivalence certification. If the qualifying examination is not a public examination, the candidate must already have passed at least one public Board or Pre-University examination before UCEED.

A recognised three-year diploma can meet the examination qualification rule, but it does not guarantee BDes admission at every participating institute. The admitting institute must accept that qualification for its programme.

UCEED BDes Eligibility by Institute

Admission to the participating Bachelor of Design programmes requires a rank in UCEED 2027, the applicable age condition and the qualifying-examination requirements. The institute-wise subject combinations are:

A PCM student can apply to all seven participating institutes. Commerce and Arts students can apply to IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Hyderabad and IIT Indore. The specific IIITDM Jabalpur subject combination includes Physics and Chemistry with Mathematics or Biology; it should not be treated as an all-stream route.

Students appearing for Class 12 in 2027

All parts of the final qualifying examination should be completed by the BDes application date. If an examination is scheduled after that date, contact the UCEED office for the exceptional-case procedure. Proof of passing with the required eligibility must reach the admitting institute by 30 September 2027.

If your Board gives only letter grades and does not state the passing grade, obtain a Board certificate explaining the passing grade and upload it with the grade sheet. UCEED exam registration alone does not submit a BDes admission application; the joint application window is 15 March to 12 April 2027.

Reservation, OCI and Foreign-National Rules

OBC-NCL applicants need inclusion in the Central List and non-creamy-layer status. A caste listed only in a state list is not enough. Creamy-layer OBC candidates are considered under OPEN. The category entered in the registration database cannot be changed after registration.

OCI/PIO cards issued before 4 March 2021 lead to consideration for OPEN seats and the applicable common/PwD rank list, not EWS/OBC-NCL/SC/ST reservation. Cards issued on or after that date follow the foreign-national supernumerary route.

Foreign-national seats are supernumerary, with a cap of 10% of the programme intake. Candidates need a UCEED rank and must satisfy OPEN eligibility. Allocation follows the Indian-national allocation in the same round and requires a rank equal to or better than that programme's OPEN closing rank, within the cap. It is not a guaranteed extra seat.

Documents for UCEED Eligibility

A valid category certificate for the entrance test is not automatically the correct certificate for the later admission stage. The OBC-NCL/EWS issue-date requirement changes to 1 April 2027 for admission in academic year 2027-28.

For dyslexia, the prescribed forms must clearly state SEVERE to claim the PwD benefit. Scribe and/or compensatory-time requests must be made with the supporting documents during registration. A scribe is available only for Part A; Part B must be completed by the candidate. Approved extra time is 20 minutes per hour for each part and cannot be transferred between parts.
