The seat for Btech programme in NIT Raipur is alloted by Josaa counselling for which we have to write JEE Mains examination. According to different quotas, same branch is alloted across various students. For a general category student of outside state, 19500-23500 rank is required for Electronics Branch. For home state 34000-40000 rank is needed. The ranks keep on increasing numerically as we apply quotas. Some people with PWD quotas even get into the branch with lakhs as high as 800000. Even though campus area is statistically 85-100 acres. The college feels small due to its poorly planned construction. There are only two big academic buildings out of which one is for architecture students and other is for all other programmes (Btech, Mtech, pHd, MCA) So yes students of all branches share the same building. There are more than 20 clubs. Hostel scene is extremely bad and is full of reservation. There is only 1 grocery shop, 1 dairy, 2 cafes, 1 Restaurant inside college.
I chose Btech in electronics and telecommunication due to my interest and passion. The curriculum is same for first year for every branch. Subjects in first semester were Mathematics I, Physics I, Applied Chemistry, Basic Electrical Engineering, Workshops like turning shop, machine shop, carpentry shop and Communication skills (english). In second semester, Physics chemistry maths, Computer programming, Data Structures and Algorithms, Engineering Mechanics are the subjects. All faculties are pHD holders, mainly from government colleges. Lab assistants are mainly phd scholars currently pursuing their phd. While some faculties are very good, some are not so and makes learning difficult in class. There is a provision of free library in college that also allows us to issue books. Free wifi network is also there in college. There are two exams per semester. Mid semester exam and end semester exam. Papers are usually easy, only if we study timely. One nighters are not recommended.
No i have not opted for any internship because i am in first year of college. Although many paid opportunities are there, this time should be to do courses and learn skills. we can apply for internships second year onwards.
Placements at NIT Raipur are strong, with the Training and Placement Cell ensuring students are industry-ready through training and workshops. Top recruiters like TCS, Infosys, Amazon, Capgemini, and Vedanta visit annually, offering packages as high as ?46 LPA, with an average of ?8-10 LPA. CS/IT branches achieve nearly 100% placements, while core branches like Electronics and Mechanical have rates of 70-85%. The institute emphasizes internships and projects, helping students secure PPOs. Higher studies are supported through guidance for exams like GATE and GRE. Post-graduation, I plan to pursue a career in core electronics or software development, enhance skills via certifications, or explore higher studies and entrepreneurship. NIT Raipur’s opportunities and environment provide a solid foundation for my future aspirations.
For the first year, There is one time admission fees (inclusive of registration fees and other small fees like caution fees) of approx 35000 that is deducted during Josaa counselling itself. Then the fees of college for general category and obc students having become more than 5 lakh per annum is 71400 per semester. The fees for Gen EWS/obc having income below 5 lakh is 1/3rd of this so approx 24000 per semester. Fees for people availing SC/ST/and general ews having income below than 1 lakh is nil. These fees were exclusive of hostel fees and were valid for both genders. For first year hostels, there is 1 fime fees of 19500 including electricity, water charges. . Then it is 17500 per semester. So 55000 for whole year. There is a shortage of hostels in our college from second year. Only the top 10% of class gets to live in college hostel. Its fees is also 55000 for an year. We usually spend most of our time in college. Classes begins at 9 AM mostly. We spend our time having fun discussions with batchmates and teachers. Students are very flexible to go inside and outside college and location is very good so we are free fo roam anywhere we want. So students mostly make a friend group and spend their time with them. We spend our time at Cafe's in college or outside too. Food is very affordable. Places are very limited in Raipur though, we have covered every inch of city in just a semester. Shruti(music fest) organised in November. Samar (sports fest) in January. Eclectika (tech fest) in February. Codeutsava in October. ESummit in April. Aavartan in July. Many many other events throughout the year organised by 23+ clubs for every interest in every field. Sports facilities are very limited in our college. No special football, cricket or any sporta field. Football and cricket are all played simultaneously in the same field. A very small free gym.
1st year hostels are provided to 70% of students mostly of higher ranked branches. Don't expect college hostel if your home is in 70 Km radius of college. Hostels are old but well maintained. Food is also good and very cheap. Approx 110 rupees per day. We can go outside hostel after 6 AM, and we have to strictly enter back at 9 PM. Rlse charge are imposed. Very chill hostel life, hostel life is best.

I choose Mechanical Engineering as my course here, as i am interested in Automotive, and also this institute is near my home town. There are permanent faculty members present in institute. All lectures are done in proper classrooms and study materials are also provides digitally. They are very easy to approach and helpful in nature, they help us solving doubts and gives us tips in study.
There is not much placement opportunities for the students of biotechnology compared to the students of b.tech. basically the placement is based on a merit list so not All students are benefited with this kind of placements only the students who wear like gold medalist where awarded this placement. For the the students in the BTech where awarded with better job opportunities and placement.
