BBA (Hons) and B.Com (Hons) receive strong student interest at BESC. Under the University of Calcutta's NEP 2020 curriculum, the Accounting and Finance and Taxation specialisations in B.Com (Hons) follow a 4-year honours structure.

BESC Admission Process

Admission at BESC follows the merit system set by the University of Calcutta. Undergraduate applicants are assessed through their Class 12 board results without an entrance test. Separate, subject-based merit lists are then displayed on the college portal.

  1. Students first choose a programme and check its academic and subject requirements.
  2. For undergraduate courses, the college evaluates Class 12 marks. Graduation marks are used for MA English and M.Com.
  3. BESC publishes programme-wise or subject-wise merit lists on its portal.
  4. A selected student secures the allotted seat by paying the required fee.
  5. If payment is not completed, the vacant seat is offered through a later merit list.

BBA (Hons)

Students from any Class 12 stream can seek admission to BBA (Hons). They must have at least 45% in the qualifying examination. Applicants from all recognised boards are placed in the merit list according to their Class 12 scores.

B.Com (Hons) and B.Com (Hons) Specialisations

Most B.Com (Hons) applicants have studied Commerce and need a minimum aggregate of 45%. Students from other streams can also apply if they meet University of Calcutta rules. Accounting and Finance and Taxation are 4-year specialised options. Their selection follows the same merit system, with additional preferences for relevant subjects.

BA (Hons)

BESC prepares an individual merit list for every BA (Hons) subject. For most honours courses, the chosen subject must have been studied in Class 12. Journalism and Mass Communication accepts students from every stream and generally has greater competition because of this wider eligibility.

BSc (Hons)

Admission to BSc (Hons) requires a Science background in Class 12 and the subject combination relevant to the chosen course. Physics, Chemistry, and Electronics use the 4-year honours format. Mathematics and Computer Science are offered as 3-year undergraduate programmes.

Postgraduate Programmes (MA English and M.Com)

For MA English, an applicant must hold an English Honours graduation degree from a recognised university. M.Com requires a B.Com degree and the minimum aggregate fixed by the University of Calcutta. Graduation marks decide selection for both postgraduate programmes.
