SPIT Mumbai Courses and Fees

SPIT has 7 programmes spanning undergraduate, postgraduate and research study in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, and Electronics and Telecom Engineering. Its government-aided structure places the annual B.Tech CAP fee of INR 2,12,000 among the lower fees charged by autonomous engineering institutes in Mumbai. The following figures apply to the general category quota.

Fee note: These amounts follow the 2025-26 fee schedule. The Maharashtra government Fee Regulating Authority may revise SPIT fees because the institute receives government aid. Students should confirm the payable amount at spit.ac.in before making a payment.

The Institute-Level route covers 20% of the B.Tech intake and charges INR 4,26,125 per year. Admission is decided by merit among applicants who either did not secure SPIT through CAP or selected the Institute-Level route. Every applicant must meet the course eligibility conditions and have a valid MHT-CET or JEE Main score.

SPIT Mumbai Admission Process

Merit determines admission to every SPIT programme. The institute has no minority quota and does not offer management quota or direct admission outside the prescribed admission system. Students applying through the Maharashtra process must register at cetcell.mahacet.org. B.Tech intake consists of 80% CAP seats and a separate 20% Institute-Level share filled on merit among eligible applicants.

B.Tech Admission

Applicants need at least 50% in Class 12 Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The minimum is 45% for reserved-category students. A valid score in MHT-CET PCM or JEE Main Paper 1 is also required.

  • Take MHT-CET for the PCM group or appear for JEE Main.
  • Create an application for DTE Maharashtra CAP at cetcell.mahacet.org.
  • Submit the preferred colleges and engineering branches online.
  • Check the provisional seat results released through CAP Round 1, CAP Round 2 and CAP Round 3.
  • After receiving a SPIT allotment, report to the institute with original documents and pay the first-year fee.

Admission to Computer Engineering and CSE is highly competitive. Open-category closing scores in the MHT-CET 2025 CAP rounds were above 99.7 percentile for both branches. Electronics and Telecom Engineering generally closed between 97 and 99 percentile.

MCA Admission

MCA applicants may hold a degree in any discipline, but Mathematics must have been one of their subjects. They need at least 50% in graduation, or 45% if they belong to a reserved category. A valid MAH-MCA-CET score is compulsory, and DTE Maharashtra CAP handles the allotment. The programme draws strong competition because of its fee level and placement record.

M.Tech and PhD Admission

For M.Tech, students need a relevant B.Tech degree with a minimum of 55% and a valid GATE score. DTE Maharashtra CAP allocates the available seats. SPIT manages PhD selection directly. Research applicants must qualify through GATE, UGC NET or the institute research entrance test. Previous research publications or industry experience receive preference during selection.

The University of Mumbai has granted autonomous status to SPIT, while NAAC has awarded it an A grade. Its engineering programmes also hold NBA accreditation, showing that they meet national quality standards for technical education.

SPIT Mumbai Campus and Infrastructure

SPIT operates from a compact urban campus in Andheri West, Mumbai, Maharashtra, maintained by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. It contains three departmental buildings serving Computer Engineering, Computer Science, and Electronics and Telecom. Students also have access to a central library, advanced networking laboratories and a separate research block. The campus layout reflects the limited space available in Mumbai's densely developed areas.

There is no SPIT-operated hostel on the campus. Depending on vacancies in a particular year, a limited number of students may find accommodation through the neighbouring Sardar Patel College of Engineering campus. Students arriving from outside Mumbai commonly rent homes in Andheri, Versova and nearby localities. Andheri station is a short distance away, and the western suburban railway provides transport for daily commuters.

SPIT Mumbai vs KJ Somaiya vs DJ Sanghvi

B.Tech applicants in Mumbai frequently consider SPIT alongside KJ Somaiya College of Engineering (KJSCE) and DJ Sanghvi College of Engineering. Each is an autonomous institution affiliated with the University of Mumbai, and all three attract students from the same MHT-CET applicant group.

Among these three colleges, SPIT records the leading placement figures, with average packages in the INR 14 to 15 LPA range, and has the most affordable government-aided fee structure. KJSCE provides more programme choices and a newer campus with additional infrastructure, but its fees are higher. DJ Sanghvi combines a western Mumbai location with an aided fee structure comparable to SPIT. Based on placement and fee figures, students allotted Computer Engineering or CSE at SPIT through CAP may prefer it to the other two choices.
