Admission at Visvesvaraya Institute of Technology is course-specific and depends on eligibility, entrance exam scores, merit, or the applicable quota. The institute accepts KCET, COMEDK, Karnataka PGCET, GATE, KMAT, and CMAT for different programs.

Library: The Library and Information Centre functions from an independent three-storey building and has seating for more than 400 users. Its collection includes more than 67,900 print volumes, e-books, e-journals, national and international databases, and digital learning resources available through the VTU Consortium. The library is partially automated with LIBSOFT, provides OPAC services, and is affiliated with E-ShodhSindhu, INFLIBNET, IRINS, and the National Digital Library of India.

Sports: The campus has cricket and football grounds, a 400-metre athletic track, basketball and volleyball courts, tennis courts, badminton courts, kabaddi and kho-kho courts, table tennis, chess, carrom, and fully equipped gymnasiums. Trained coaches support sports such as cricket, football, basketball, volleyball, wrestling, judo, softball, and weightlifting. The cricket ground is also used by the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) for league tournaments.

MVIT offers separate on-campus hostel accommodation for boys and girls, subject to availability. The men's hostel has five blocks with capacity for 946 students, while the ladies' hostel accommodates 580 students. Hostel rooms include cots, study tables, cupboards, fans, and solar-heated water.
