Coimbatore Institute of Technology is a government-aided college. In 1956, the V. Rangaswamy Naidu Educational Trust founded it. In 1978, authorities deemed the institute autonomous. It is now affiliated to Anna University Chennai. The institute is AICTE-approved and NBA-accredited. IIRF ranked the college at 18 for BTech in 2024.
 

CIT Coimbatore BE is the flagship course of this institute. The programme offers the following specialisations: Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, and Electrical and Communication Engineering. The candidate should have scored 50% in 10+2. Candidates are selected based on the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission. This is followed by Single Window Counselling by the Chennai Directorate of Technical Education. The total intake of this course is 600 seats. Rs 1.01 Lakhs is the total fees of this four-year program. Besides BE, CIT Coimbatore offers other courses. They are BE Lateral, BTech, BTech Lateral, MTech, MCA, MBA, and BSc + MSc.

Several scholarships are granted at CIT Coimbatore. These include scholarships for students from backward, most backward, and denotified communities with an income under INR 2 Lakhs. It also includes SC/ST students, who must stay in a hostel, with the same income limit. There are also scholarships for children of teachers, differently-abled students with income under INR 3 Lakhs and a 50% score, children of ex-servicemen, and children of government employees who die while in service.
