Coimbatore Institute of Technology (CIT) is a government-aided autonomous engineering college started in 1956. The institute is affiliated with Anna University, Chennai, and has AICTE approval. It also holds NAAC A accreditation.

CIT Admission Process

For B.E. and B.Tech, CIT admits students only through Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA), based on Class 12 board marks. The institute's TNEA code is 2007. UG engineering applicants do not have to take a separate entrance test. Marks from Tamil Nadu state board, CBSE, or ISC are normalised before the merit rank is prepared.

Open category students need 45% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics in Class 12. BC, MBC, and DNC candidates need 40%. SC and ST candidates only need pass marks.

For MBA, MCA, and ME, admission is through TANCET scores followed by DOTE PG counselling. GATE-qualified students can enter ME with full stipend benefits. Diploma holders from DOTE-approved polytechnics can apply for lateral entry into the third year of B.E. CIT conducts its own entrance test every June for the five-year M.Sc integrated courses.
