Honors And Rewards

• Researchers at IISER_B published a total of 254 research papers in the year 2019.
• Dr. Sourav Dutta’s research work on Plant Protection against UV-B rays featured in the Hindustan Times.
• Dr. Vineet Sharma’s study on colorectal cancer gut microbiome was highlighted in the Times Of India.
• Dr. Sanjeev Shukla’s research work on breast cancer got highlighted in The Hindu.
• Two graduate students from the Department of Biological Sciences received the ‘MP Young Scientist Award 2020” in the 35th MP Young Scientist Congress.

Acheivements

• The undergraduate team from the department of physics secured 4th rank globally in the International Theoretical Physics Olympiad(IPTO), which is the best performance by any Indian Team ever in the Olympiad.
• An institute’s team secured a Silver Medal at iGEM(International Genetically Engineered Machine) competition in synthetic biology held in Boston, USA
• An undergraduate student from the Department of Biological Sciences secured All – India 1st Rank in the CSIR – NET JRF examination in Life-Sciences, December 2019.
• An undergraduate student from the Dept. of Chemistry is selected to attend the 70th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting 2020, in Germany.
• A fake news detection app, NewsChase was developed by a team from the Dept. of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. The app was highlighted in The Times Of India.

IISER Bhopal: Courses

IISER is a science research institute, so there are only research degrees offered. Following are the details of the courses.

IISER Bhopal: Admissions

BS-MS Program

This is the flagship program, offered to high school graduates. Admission in this program happens through 3 channels:

1. JEE Advanced of IITs
2. Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) channel
3. State and Central Boards Channel (SCB)

Among these three channels, you can opt for one or more. The minimum rank you have to secure in JEE Advanced is decided by the institute. Students who are eligible for the KVPY fellowship can directly apply through this channel and they’ll get admission if they clear their board exam cut-off. As for the students opting for SCB they have to give the IISER entrance exam.

The IISER entrance exam is based on Maths, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.

Applications to apply to this program are made available online. There are certificate formats available for reserved categories which they have to fill and upload while applying for the course. You just have to go to the IISER admission portal and download that certificate separately. Application form link will be announced and will be available at the institute’s site,

You can apply for multiple channels too, but for your admission, only one channel would be considered.

BS Program

This program is only available at IISER Bhopal, no other IISER campus offers this course.

The admission process for this program is the same as BS-MS integrated. You can fill up your preference for this course while filling the form online.

Integrated Ph.D. Program

Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree to be eligible for this program. Admission to this program will be made once a year and notice for the same will be made available between March and April.

A written exam or an interview will be conducted by the institute at the campus. In case of the candidates who are seeking admission in Chemistry should have a valid JAM(Joint Admission Test for MSc) score and candidates seeking Physics should have a valid JEST(Joint Entrance Screening Test) score.

Candidates will need to provide self-attested photocopies of your supporting documents such as grade reports/mark sheets, JAM certificate/scorecards, and SC/ST/OBC/PD/EWS certificate if any, along with the print out of the application at the time of the interview, if you are shortlisted.

Ph.D. Program

The application forms for Ph.D. admission are available online at the website. You have to fill the form online and upload all the necessary documents. Links for different streams are different. Along with the form you have to upload your mark sheets, all academic records, recommendation letters in the form itself. It is mandatory to take the printout of the form pdf as it will be required during the interview.

IISER Bhopal: Placements

Institute does not provide the stats of placements hence we cannot say for sure how many students got placed and in which sector. It was in the reports that in 2019, 87% of students got placed in MNCs from BS-MS flagship.

The Institute Career Development and Placement Council(ICDPC) is responsible for managing all the placement-related activities. There is a procedure that they follow:

1. Invitations are sent to the concerned companies a few weeks before the placement season.
2. Companies express their interest in recruiting by filling out the Job Notification Form.
3. JNF along with job descriptions and other information is made available to the students.
4. Interested students register and their resumes are made available to the companies.
5. Recruiters scrutinize applications and update the ICPDC with the details of shortlisted candidates
6. Campus recruitment dates are provided to the companies.
7. Companies submit a list of all the selected students at the end of the session. Offer letters are sent to final recruits within the next three weeks.

IISER Bhopal: Facilities

• Hostels: Double accommodation rooms with one almirah, one chair, one study table, and nets on windows. Each hostel has a common room with A.C, fridge, led T.V, a big study desk and table for table tennis. Hostels are also equipped with a lift, CCTV, Water purifier, Water dispenser.
• Central Library: The library consists of 10,000 books, and the collection includes textbooks for the degree programs, light reading materials, fiction, Stories, General books, Encyclopaedias and Dictionaries, Magazines, etc. Research books & Monographs are also included in the collection for labs & research purposes.
• Central Instrumentation Facility: It is an interdisciplinary shared user facility with state-of-the-art instruments needed for research.
• Other Facilities include visitor’s hostel, transportation, healthcare, Lecture Hall Complex.
